My eyelids fluttered open slowly. Another day, I thought rolling over. Light flooded through the room, much to the curtains protest. I chuckled, Definitely need new curtains, I reminded myself. I sat myself up in my bed and hugged my knees over the sheets, brushing hair off my face gently. I glanced over at the beautiful baby blue dress hanging on my door. Bid day! How could I forget!? Scrambling out of bed I raced out the door, my silk nightgown flowing almost endlessly behind me. I zoomed down our houses winding marble staircases and leapt over the last few steps. Today's the day! My Mum sat at the long dining table when I entered. I must've slept in, oh well. My mother smiled as I sat down next to her, yawning my greetings. We've always been close, my Mum and I. Since my dad left, we've been all we both had. As, I helped myself to the leftovers of breakfast placed on the table my Mum asked how I was feeling. I wanted to say all these emotions but only "Fine" came. She nodded. Today was really going to be huge....
When we arrived at our local bid hall, whispers aroused as we entered the grand room. We were known by a lot of people, mostly because I was somehow so "Interesting" since no one knew my knack. But I really didn't get it. Loads of kids my age hid their knack, so why focus on me? I sighed as I plopped down on the smooth timber chairs, and just in time. The Bid Hall manager, Elijah William walk onto the stage wearing an elegant tuxedo carrying a polished wooden box like all other bid boxes, this one was tall and rectangular, he pulled out the first envelope. It was a pale yellow, almost like the colour most children were wearing right now. I'd predicted this, so I chose my pale blue dress which just reaches the floor as I sit on the bench. Elijah opens smiled at the expecting audience and opened the tiny envelope and read aloud . '"Dame Frances Lindsey of Nevermoor, wishes to present her bid on Lola Andrews'". A small squeal from the near end of the hall echoed. Lola Andrews practically shot out of her seat and raced up to the stage her hands shaking as she took the bid letter from Elijah. He congratulated her and then quietly gave her directions which no one could make out, (due to a couple of nosy parents disappointment) and she raced offstage. Eventually the second bid came and went, as well as the third, fourth, and so on. My mum held my hand reassuringly but I questioned in my head who she was reassuring. My mum had always declared I had talent, no matter what anyone said. I squeezed her hand back, no matter who she was reassuring, I was still terrified. "I'm more than you think," i whispered "more than the girl with the unknown knack". More than that . Finally the last envelope came, it was a brilliant turquoise, my breathing fastened, there were at least twenty kids still hanging to their seats. The dark skinned man slowly opened the last bid and cleared his throat. '" Finally, Mistress Carol Rosewood of Nevermoor, wishes to present her bid on"' This is it. The last one '" Allana Hope"' I froze. My name just escaped his lips, I gasped loudly and ran up to the stage, carrying my dress in front of me. "Well done Allana, now head backstage, your patron is waiting for you" He winked and waved me off. I looked back at the audience where all the other children wailed to their parents, but when my eyes drifted to my Mother she beamed at me mouthing I knew you could do it. I smiled back and walked off to meet my amazing patron.
