It lay there, screaming to be opened, it wasnt her property though and she couldnt bring herself to do it. The door swung open scaring Cassie half to death, in ran her two gorgeous children, Skylar and Sapphire. Hurryingly she grasped the book between he fingers and hid it behind her back until the kids were out of sight, she stumbled across the kitchen and shoved the book in between Nigela Lawson and Jamie Oliver's cook books. The sun slowly collapsed between the hills leaving darkness behind it, the two girls were fast asleep in bed and the house lay quieter than ever before. Cassie created a sigh of relief to be safe and have her two children in her arms. She slid into the kitchen to make a cup of hot chocolate which she knew would keep her awake but she didnt mind.
Her eyes flickered at the work top, a tear carressed her cheek and her heart stopped beating momentarily. A clump formed in her throt making it almost impossible for her to swallow and her breathes became louder and more exaggerated. She dragged her feet forwards until her finger tips reached the edge of the counter, she ran her fingers over the black leather bound book. In a slow motion she glanced up at the cookery books to find a gp where it once stood with Jamie Oliver and Nigela Lawson. One of her giant tears spilled onto the leather but slid off as though it did not like emotion. The fear rose inside of her, she began to wonder whether the girls had seen it and tried to open it but it wasnt there when she had said good night to the girls. With no hesitation she grabbed the book tightly to make sure she didnt lose her grip and she rammed it back into place on the shelf. A splatter of dust flew from the old wood and miraculously a shiny golden shimmering key crashed down onto the tiled flooring. Not a key she hd seen before, and it certainly wasnt with the book, Cassie was always a bit of an adventure seeker so she selected the book ad placed it calmly on the work top where she had found it shortly before. The urge of excitement but also fear thrived in her body, she examined the key before inserting it into the lock. Just as she had suspected, the key didnt fit, the book remained locked and there was nothing left that she could do. For at least two hours she sat there staring at it intently pondering what would be written in the pages, what would be sprawled across the lines, and yet something was keeping her from seeing and it wasnt the lock.
Due to the events of today, it was obvious that Cassie wouldnt stay at home. The thought of her having to face another day alone in the strange happenings of the house scared her, she didnt want to have to encounter the weird behaviour.
The morning soon came, Cassie didnt awake to her alarm clock but to the noise of Skylar and Sapphire bouncing around the house. She lifted her face in agony off the kitchen top and brushed her hair of her face with her freezing cold hands. Her body shook as she stood from the chair, all night she had been slouched over this book that she had cradled in her arms the night before. To enjoy the day she had to make it as normal as possible, she enaged in conversation with her two daughters to get them to get dressed and out of the house with Amy, the family's baby sitter. Amy took them to school, waited in the house until 4pm and them brought them back to the house and waited for me to arrive before she left. Why had she never mentioned these strange appearances? Surely she wouldnt come back every day without mentioning a word about it, this made Cassie insecure and alone. As though it was after her and only her, she couldnt be freed. She was trapped!
Trying not to work herself up, she cautiously waited for Amy to arrive so that she could shoot out of the door and off to work. In her bag which is usually empty was suprisingly full today, she had her usual mascara, car keys, driving license but this time she had a big book over flowing from her satchel. Quite peculiar looking and not one that looks like it wants to engage the reader. It seemed like some sort of diary or blog, maybe a journal of some kind but not one for reading.
As she flung her bag into the back seat of the new style mini cooper, her satchel ripped open and the book was released. It fell to the floor with an almighty thud but Cassie drowned out the noise and continued her way to work. Twisting and turning, the book was tossed and turned and flipped all over the car before coming to an almighty stop. The force of the brakes forced the book into hiding under the seat not to be seen, Cssie wrapped her tiny fists around the bag and aggressively pulled it out of the car without noticing the missing book. She worked to hard anyway, she wouldnt have the time to sit there and rip the book of its safety. During her lunch hour, she reached anxiously into her bag to fing the book no longer there and a slight tear in the fabic of her bag. She raced through the building in search of the book but couldnt seem to find it. Her heart thudded fastly as it beat out of her chest, her memory was never that good but she definately remembered plced the book into her bag before leaving the mysterious house. A gasp left her mouth as she powered down the steps to the car park. Her eyes reddened and her ose began to run as she held her face up to the glass window, she let out a burst of fresh air as she saw it lied on the seat. She hadnt seen it before this so to her it wasnt strange that the book had moved from under her seat.
Once back in the building she gave the book to Phil who cut the lock from the book, it was like watching someone take a child from their mother. Cassie watched, her eyes constantly mesmorised by the sight of the opened book as it was handed back to her. Sat at her desk, she tucked into a pot noodle taking a few mouthfulls before revealling the pages as she didnt want to splash the pages with her dinner. The first page of the book was blank, it contained not a single word nor picture and it had no life to it. All her desire and passion to dive into a new, mysterious book had gone, she was no longer impressed by its vague look. Something in the back of her mind told her this wasnt it so she continued to tke her adventure to the next few pages but again found nothing but white, crisp pages one after the other.
