The Escape

Richard

I was coming home from my last day at The Marry Smith Academy school. When I walked in the house like usual my mom was in the kitchen walkway trying not to cry but was doing a bad job. I look over and Richard was on the couch with a beer in his hand. Richard had curly dark frizzy hair, brown eyes but the sclera is pink, chapped lips, and always where's stained clothes, mostly the same outfit for a week. I didn't understand why my mom was with that man, she obviously didn't want to.

I walked up stairs to check on Mateo; I knocked on the door three times, then he knocked twice and opened the door. "Rose, I don't want to move" he said in a sad whiny voice "I know Mateo, neither do I" I said as I picked him up and gave him a hug. It was time for dinner, so I grabbed Mateos hand gently and we walked down stairs to the dining room.

The only upside to the move was the fact that we where getting new furniture, I thought while sitting into my unstable chair. Mateo sat next to me as Richard and mother sat across from us. For dinner was shrimp fried rice and steak.

"Did you help your brother pack Rose?" Mother said trying to start a conversation. "Yes mother, where both done packing, are you?"  I said with frustration. She looked mad but surprised, I never talked back to my mother before. Then she looked at Richard. "Mateo go get ready for bed, Rose will be there shortly".

Richard put his foot against mine and gave me the look he gave my mother when they first start going out, I pulled my foot back and he looked angry. Mother got up from the table and went to go get some pain killers for her head, surprisingly, she didn't notice his "gesture". Once my mother left Richard said "Your growing into a women Rose, a beautiful women." I gulped, and said I had to get Mateo ready for bed. Was he hitting on me? I thought to myself as I ran up the steps.

Mateo was out the shower and in his pjs, and wanted me to dry his hair, so I did with his ducky towel. I was done reading Mateo "Su Propio Color", "A Color Of His Own" and tucked him in. "Buenas noches Rose" Mateo said as he began to drip of to sleep. I kissed him on the head and said in a soft whisper "buenas noches Mateo". I got up and turned the light of, then closed the door.

I was laying in bed looking at the ceiling trying to fall asleep, when I heard mother and Richard arguing once more. I opened my door slowly, trying to make as little noise as possible. I sat next to the wooden bars that lead to the steps with my ears and eyes open to the conversation. Mother began to speak in a quite, frightened like voice. "I....I can't do this anymore. I can't live like this Richard! Not with you." "NO.", Richard began. "I'm not letting you leave me, not with her!" "Im taking the kids and where leaving" mother said as she started to walk up the steps. Richard grabbed onto the back of Mother's shirt and pulled her down the steps and held her tight. "There isn't anything upstairs for you" he said with a giggle, "... SHE BELONGS TO ME!". My heart started pounding. Was I dreaming? I rubbed my eyes then kept watching, then he threw  my mother   into the wall making a hole, then she fell onto the floor with a puddle of blood following.

I couldn't believe my eyes, I ran back into my room, twisted my dolls head off and grabbed the knife inside its stomach. Then, I boulted to the steps. "Your never leaving me, NEVER!" Richard yelled at my mother as the puddle of blood formed bigger, touching Richards bare feet. I couldn't lose my mother, not after losing my dad. Thankfully, Richard didn't see me as I made it down the steps. I charged at him And got  close enough to stab him the back of his right shoulder, which made him scream. He took the knife out of his shoulder then the blood began to PORE out like a water and a SINK. Then he grabbed me by my arm and looked me in the eyes  with love/hate then threw me across the room and I fell into a glass table. As I could barely open my eyes I saw mother dead on the floor and Mateo on the top of the steps crying.
