CHAPTER 2

Jenna POV

I opened my eyes slowly, for they felt like lifting the heaviest weights imaginable. As my eyes were adjusting I saw a figure. Someone in blue, all blue. He was sticking something very cold to my forehead. What was happening? Would anyone like to explain to me what's going on?

"Who are you?" I asked softly.

"I'm Doctor Moore," he said, emotionless.

"Where am I?" I asked.

"You're at the Truggview Hospital," he replied.

"Hospital? Why?" I asked.

"Now Jenna, what's the last thing you remember?" he asked, avoiding my questions.

"Uh I heard glass break and I hit my head," I said.

"Anything after that?" he asked.

"Uh, no," I said.

"Well how long were you blacked out before your father came home from work?" he asked. Was he stupid? I was BLACKED OUT, as in UNCONSCIOUS. I don't know!

"I was unconscious so I have no idea," I replied.

"Oh ok. Would you like to see your father?" he asked.

"Sure," I said, examining a yellow wristband someone had put on me. After the doctor left, I reviewed all of the facts in my head. Homework. Break. Head. Blackout. That's it. All I had.

"Hi honey," my dad said coming in.

"Dad what happened?" I asked.

"Someone threw a brick through your window and it broke the glass and hit you on the head," he said.

"Well, why would someone do that?" I asked.

"I don't know, but I have to go make a few calls," he said and left the room. I couldn't say no because I was still in shock from what just happened. I stared blankly into ceiling of the hospital room not knowing how long I've been here as doctors came in constantly to check on my I asked on small woman, "What time is it?"

"Oh well, right now it is 8:27," she said with a nod.

"And what time will I be leaving?" I asked.

"My estimate is around 10:00 because your situation was not very severe at all," she replied and left the room while checking something on her purple clipboard. I looked around the room seeing if there was anything I could possibly do when I decided to sit up. I couldn't, it hurt too much. I reached for my phone and did a 4-way call with 3 of the closest people I know. If you guessed Hannah, Alyssa, Chris and I, then you're correct.

We talked for a long time, it felt like forever. But I absolutely love those kinds of conversations. Alyssa was bombarding me with questions but I knew she would. Chris was finishing her questions, getting more in to detail. One of the questions was about what kind of brick it was. Kind of brick? Yup, those are the friends I chose. Hannah was being kind of quiet, like normal. She never really talked that much in these kinds of conversations.

After we all hung up I sat there waiting; waiting for anything really. A nurse, a person, I didn't really care, honestly. I sat there for a while before my dad came in.

"Who did you call?" I asked.

"Well, first I called your mother because I thought she should know about this," he said and I was very surprised, he then continued, "I also called a guy to fix your bedroom window."

"What did mom say?" I asked.

"Well, she said that she can't wait to see you again and to get well soon," he said. Wow that was sincere. Yeah right. I thought she might say something a little more heartwarming.

"Oh ok," I said. I was disappointed but it didn't really get to me. My mom wasn't really around that much when I was a kid, so I didn't take it that seriously.

"Well I'm going to go get something from the hospital café, do you want anything?" he asked.

"No, I'm good," I said. That was a complete lie; I wasn't good at all. My head, well my entire body, was in pain, my mother doesn't care and my father keeps escaping and...I was interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Come in," I said.

"Hi Jenna," a familiar voice said. I glanced over to see who it was but I regretted it. Stacy? What was Stacy doing in my hospital room?

"Hi Stacy, what are you doing here?" I asked curiously.

"Oh well I was just visiting my grandma and I heard you were here so I decided to stop by," she said. Stacy really was a sweet girl, just annoying. I kind of felt bad for her almost.

"Oh, thanks," I said with a small smile, still a little confused.

"Oh and I'm supposed to tell you that you'll be out of here at ten if you feel ok, I ran into Doctor Moore on the way here," she said. I tried sitting up. This time I could it just kind of hurt but I knew I would be fine.

"Ok," I said and she opened the door to leave.

"See you at school!" she said and before I knew it, she was gone.

(The Next Day)

"Are you sure you want to go to school today, you can always stay home, it's definitely an option," my dad said for the ten billionth time.

"Yep," I said and I made a really weird noise with the 'p' in attempt to pop it. I heard a honk from the bus. I grabbed my backpack and ran out the door, "BYE!" I yelled to my dad while the door was already closing. When the buses doors opened I looked for a seat. This was always one of the most difficult parts. I noticed one empty seat and sat down in it before I saw who I was sitting next to. Drew. Oh what a coincidence, the only guy I possibly want to see is sitting so close to me we are sharing the same oxygen right now.

"Hi, I heard about your head," Drew started, "Are you ok?"

"Oh yeah, I'm fine," I said, slightly stuttering. I could literally feel the butterflies growing in my stomach.

"So I was wondering, well, I know I don't really know you that well but would you, um, maybe want to go get dinner with me on Friday?" Drew asked. Are you kidding me? YES!!

"Totally," I said, I hope I didn't sound too desperate. Before I knew it the bus driver pulled up to the school and I had to get out. As I stepped off the bus I smelled the sweet smell of the gum under the bleachers and sweaty gym socks. I walked across the pavement and towards the doors to the school when I was stopped by Hannah.

"Oh hey Hannah what's up?" I asked her.

"Not much. I just got a call from my birth mom last night," she said with part excitement and part worry. Hannah was adopted when she was only 5 days old so she never really knew her parents. Her family told her she was adopter when she was young, only like 9 I think. Ever since last year she decided to search for her birth mom with the help of her parents. She got a phone number a few weeks ago but she had to leave a message. This is really big for her.

"OMG! Hannah this is huge!" I said with a big smile giving her a hug.

"She wants to meet me," she said. This may be a problem.
