'Plop. Tip, tip, plop.'
Rain, falling rather softly into the puddle that had formed in the dark cave. No light for this moment, how could this be? Nara placed the sleeping child down on the damp dirt deep inside the cave, already she could feel her daughter pulling the remainder of her mana from her.
Thing, THING not child!
A strong reminder she told herself she could not think of her as her child for if she did she would surely steal her first born back. She would not kiss her. Would not stroke those perfect black ringlets upon her head. Straightening slowly she sobbed "I'm sorry." She whispered to her "but I am going to die and it is best you be here with them..." Nara held back another sob, slowly she stood and turned to leave the cave towards the moonlit forest though she paused "thank you Nara.." the soft female voice spoke "she will make a fine Queen after myself." Sassamora. Nara knew her voice from there meetings once every three turnings of the moon. Nara nodded slowly "treat her well..." she spoke just as softly "my husband, Fenrick... he will have a son, Nani's twin... she is not to know he exists.. please teach her." A hum of acceptance "we will be trading still with your husband as the precepts of our agreement though I will see to it she finds another family to trade with.. her guardian will take her on until she is old enough to lead as Queen." With that she heard her baby being scooped up. Nara turned once more and moved to the forest that was once classed as her home, though now seemed a dark and dreadful place. A small sob left her as she moved to the front of the cave and pushed open the wooden door
'Plop, tip.." she lent forward and fell to the ground her hand landing in the cold water.
Cold, at least she could register that much. A small victory for her, she thought.
Closing her eyes she sighed. Even the moon has come to greet my death. It had, the moon peeked through the trees leering down at her from between the clouds to kiss the woman's face as he last breath escaped her a last thought of the thing she had birthed. Nani, she is a what... not a thing...
