I was humming to myself as I did a load of dishes, my fingertips pruned and my nails grew weak. "Missy, come play with me," my little brother, Thomas, begged. The scrawny, blond boy, ran around the house, despite mother's demands. I laugh, "One minute, Thomas, let me finish the dishes," mother didn't want us to grow up as snobbish children due to our status and money, so she gave us chores with an allowance, and we never complained. "Hurry up, Missy!" he whined, making me laugh again. "I am almost done, have you finished your laundry?" he nodded with his playful grin. He would be starting Hogwarts this year, I would be in my fourth year. When I dried my hands, I run outside with our brooms and quidditch set into our backyard. "Get ready to go down!" He threatened, I snort. "Please, I have beaten you so many times already, this is just another empty threat," he grinned at me devilishly and darted as our little quaffle started off, having been enchanted to start on its own.

After playing, I notice Thomas started to get tired, and he lost his grip on his broom and started falling. "Thomas!" I scream and zoom toward my falling brother. A black dog appeared out of nowhere and broke Thomas' fall. I shout for my brother and land on the ground, running towards my brother and the dog. I was breathing heavily as I examine Thomas. "Tell me you are alright. Are you hurt?" I ask, he shook his head. "I am fine, thanks to this dog," he smiled and petted the dog, as it stood up. He sat and watched us. "Are you lost? Do you have a collar?" I ask, looking around for a collar, the dog shook its head. I smile and pet it. "How about you come inside, okay? We don't bite, I promise. Thomas, do we have anything we can feed him?" he shrugged. "I can check," I continue examining the black fuzzy dog, I put my hand on his chest and he whimpered. I gasp, my hand had a small amount of blood on it. "Oh, you poor thing, come on. We can get you cleaned up," I smile at him and gesture for him to follow me. "You are so well trained, huh?" I lead him to the bathroom and gesture for him to sit while I found a dark washcloth, specifically for occasions where there was blood involved. I wet it down and take it to the chest, earning a flinch. "Shh, it is alright, I won't hurt you," I say softly. "I found food for Snuffles," Thomas ran in, I look at him with confusion. "How do you know his name?" I ask. "I don't, I gave it to him. Anyway, here," I thank him and he ran off to go clean up our mess in the yard.

"Your fur is getting in the way, Snuffles," I say jokingly. I manage to clean it and I brush out his fur with my fingers. I put the bowl of plain eggs on the floor. "Sorry we don't have dog food, we don't have a dog. I think Thomas expects us to keep you, but maybe your owners are missing you," His head tilted. "You are a cute little thing, aren't you? You are a good boy," I say with my hands around his face. I pet him softly as he scarfed down the eggs. "How did you leave? Why did you escape?" I ask him, not earning an answer. I heard a gasp from the doorway, mother stood there, staring at me and Snuffles. "What is a dog doing in here?" she asked, I gulp. "It was hurt and I wanted to help it. It stopped Thomas from being hurt too badly when he fell from his broom, he was tired and we were playing quidditch," I explain. "Where are its owners?" she asked. "I don't know, I could put flyers up, we could find it, please let him stay for tonight? Two at the most, please mum," I beg, watching her sigh. "Fine, two nights, it leaves the day after if no one claims it," I nod and smile. "Thank you, come on, Snuffles. Let's go to my room," I said and tap my thigh.

We walk to my room, it was a peach color with some posters and pictures of me and my friends and family. "This is my room, Snuffles," I pause, "One minute," I pull out some blankets and make a pallet for Snuffles. "It isn't much, but I hope you like it," i say with a small smile and look outside, where it was a beautiful orange, "Get some sleep, I am going to get ready for bed," I said and left the room with some pajamas. I sing "I can't help but fall in love with you" while in the shower, and I get dressed and brush my teeth and wash my face. I smile at my reflection and enter my bedroom, and see Snuffles asleep on his bed and I smile, getting into my own. I fall asleep, only having dreams of my father who walked out on us.

"Father, where are you going?" I ask, my childish voice full of wonder. "I have to leave for a while, Missy, that is all," he said, towering over me with a suitcase in hand. "Why? Don't you want to stay?" I ask. "No, sweetheart, I don't. Your mother doesn't love me anymore, and you and your brother can't keep me here," I sniffle. "Why don't you want us?" I ask, "I just can't, Missy, now be a good girl and keep your chin up. Do me proud," he said before walking out the door. I let a tear slip, and I cry out for him. Mother came for me and pulled me close to her chest. She was crying, why would she cry if she didn't love him? Did he lie to me? Did he leave with no true reason?

I woke up with tears in my eyes and a warm feeling by my side. I look to find Snuffles curled up next to me, he noticed I was awake and licked my hand. I smile and wipe my tears. "Who's a good boy?" I ask, petting his head. He seemed to smile at me, I give a short laugh and sigh. "Whoever your owner is, I am jealous," I say with another laugh, laying my head down again.
