They were heading to the 23rd floor.
What.
What?!
"You guys live on the 23rd floor?" Renjun frowns. "Aren't you guys afraid of heights?"
"No, I love rollercoasters!" Chenle chirps.
Renjun wasn't sure what to expect when moving to Korea, but it certainly wasn't this. His friends never mentioned living in a somewhat high-priced apartment complex that was rented by the floor instead of by the room.
The first floor was the lobby. Next to the reception desks were four elevators. Everyone else got on the rightmost one, so Renjun followed suit, suitcase in tow.
"The elevator is out front door," Kun explains. "Usually in apartments, you get on a certain floor then go to a room, but it's not that way here."
Renjun watches as the doors close and Chenle pushes the button for floor 23.
"When the elevator stops at our floor, the doors don't open. See this black sensor?" Sicheng points to a black panel next to the floor buttons. "When we want to open the doors, we have to type in a code."
They chatter a while until the elevator stops. A ding rings out, and like they said, the doors did not open. The black panel came to life instead, electric blue text asking for a code. Chenle types in some numbers using the floor buttons and the doors soon open.
"We'll share the door code with you later. For now, let's go!" Chenle drags Renjun out of the elevator and into his new home of sorts.
The elevator had opened to show a huge kitchen first. There were a couple guys Renjun didn't know sitting at the long countertop tables.
One had hair equivalent to ramyun noodles and the other had hair that was red as a cherry.
They yelled at each other in Korean and the red head proceeded to pucker his lips to the other. Into which the noodle screamed and backed a seat away.
"Ge, who are they?" Renjun motions to them.
"Oh. Like we said, this floor has a lot of rooms instead of separate apartments," Kun explains. "So basically this floor is like a shared dorm. Currently, including you, there are seventeen guys living here."
"Eighteen," Sicheng adds. "There's a new guy moving in later."
"Enough of that, let's go to your room," Chenle pulls Renjun before he could process anything.
Eighteen guys?!
What on earth did he get himself into?
Chenle drags Renjun to the left, entering a hall of sorts filled with doors.
"This is called the Dream Wing," Chenle pointed. "Your room is the last one on the end, left door."
It was a colorful hallway. There were boldly-vibed paintings and the walls were bright blue with some plants that gave a slight tropical vibe. The hallway basically screamed, "We hot! We young!"
There were six doors in the hallway. Chenle listed the names of the boys who had rooms in the wing with them.
"First room on the left is Jisung, the youngest, and down further, the empty bedroom is getting fixed, and the last one is yours. The first door on the right is mine, the one further down is also getting fixed, and the last one is a bathroom. I heard two new dorm mates will move in in a couple days. The last door on the left is your room!"
No wait, sorry, what?
So it's not eighteen of them on this one floor but one, two, three...
Twenty?!
