I stand in the marbled halls, the light reflecting off their shimmer. Going on and on, paths opened wide for me to explore. White pillars gleamed, windows letting in the light that warmed the bitter floor. The clarity of it all astounded me, the brightness let my eyes see the magnificent world as it was. Then, suddenly muck comes rolling through these marbled halls. No spot was left to shine, only the mud and dirt could remain. White pillars were musty and smelled of the deceased and disinterested, windows blocked what needed to be seen by way of the stains. The people who caused the flood strolled in with their noses turned up and heads tilted to where only heaven knew the bounds. Foul dust trailed their foul minds, the smudged welcomed them and the now dirty pillars bowed as they glided through sludge. Towering over me they stared, peered, and analyzed my entire being. Looking upon me like an animal locked in cage, my eyes showing the defiance of a thousand beasts. Keeping me from moving, I watched through those muddy windows, distorting my reality. Their presence was degrading the very essence of these once marbled halls. Towering above me they began to speak in their awful, arrogant ways. Telling us that the corruption was for the betterment of the marble, that it would improve our lives, and that we were the ones to blame for this. The pillars that used to watch over me began to repeat their whispers, combining into an orchestra of fabrication and slander. Echoing until it became the only thing I could hear. I wanted to scream, run, fight, do something to stop these invaders! But they were already here to stay. Stuck in the filth and mire, my mind was muddied as the walls. They kept me silent and in fear of the change, but I am the change. Suppose I'm just fooling myself. I am one, and one can do only none.
