There was a heavy, loud knock at the door. Johnathan slowly rose from his small twin-sized bed. The small bed creaked with effort as the tan boy laid back down.
The knock came again.
"What?" He called. The door burst open and the face of his sister, her eyes covered by her hands entered the room. Johnathan clutched his blanket and brought it over his chest.
"Get up, knuckle-head!" his younger sister started, " We have our first day today."
Johnathan rolled his eyes. "Remind me next year."
"Hey, Jon, you naked?"
"No."
"Good." His sister said. Then suddenly, she burst in and jumped onto the bed and pummeled her brother with gentle punches to his lower back.
"Ack!" Johnathan screeched. The pale-skinned girl laughed and then got up. Johnathan smiled, his bright blue eyes shining.
"C'mon, ugly." His sister giggled. Johnathan knew it was a joke, but his smile faded. His sister didn't notice as she left the room.

Emma was already at the table, wolfing down some corn flakes. Emma perked up and glanced at him, and nodded to a bowl next to her. Johnathan beamed and skipped over to it.

As Emma and Johnathan walked down the quiet route to their school, they gossiped about it.
"Who do you think will be new this year?"
"I don't know. Do you think I'm a knowing person?"
"No." Emma replied with a smirk.
"Hey!" Johnathan shot back, turning to her. Emma laughed in response.

As they neared the school, Emma and Johnathan paused. "Remember, come in in about..five minutes." Emma said as she skipped up the stairs and through the doors.
