“Of what? The Niggas not original. He’s  a wanna be R. Kelly.”

“Don’t be mad cause Trey got washboard abs and you don’t.”

“Well you have that nigga and his abs in your bed tonight.” He snapped, looking at me.

Was he really getting upset?

“Baby, I was playing. Geesh.” I grabbed the Arizona that was sitting on the seat in between his legs and took a sip. Okay, more than a sip, and returned it to its original spot.

When Aug went to take a drink, he hit me with the straight face. “Amber.”

I already knew what he was going to say.

“Huh?” I said innocently like I didn’t know.

“Don’t huh me. You drank all my shit.”

“It’s some in there.”

He shook the bottle, revealing it was literally a drop.

“Sorry baby, I was thirsty.”

“I asked you did you want something and you said no.”

“I wasn’t thirsty then.”

“Here.” He handed me the empty bottle.

I laughed and took it from him. “I’ll buy you another one. I promise.”

We rolled up to the theater where the recital was held.

“Damn ain’t no parks.” Aug said as we circled the lot, trying to find an empty space.

“They pulling out.” I spotted a mini-van pulling out of a parking space. Aug pulled in and we got out.

“Get the roses out the back.” He asked me as he was unplugging his phone from the car charger.

I go the three small bouquets of red roses he got for each one of his nieces out the back seat.

“Stac, where y’all at?” August asked into his phone getting out the car.

On top of meeting his family, Stacy would be here. That made the butterflies in my stomach amplify. I didn’t know how it was going to turn out, but I let go of every ounce of jealousy I had. He told me it was nothing, and I had to trust him.

“Aight.” I heard him say and he hung up the phone.

He pulled up his pants, then closed the car door and locked it. He then reached for the roses in my hand.

We walked into the theater to find a swarm of families, scrambling to get in. A woman who looked in her late twenties, with burgundy hair stood next to the entrance, along with Stacy.

I followed Aug’s lead over to them.

“Hey y’all.” The lady with the burgundy hair said.

“Hey Cha. Amb, this my sister-in-law Chandra. She got a job at a shop now, so make you an appointment to get them beady-beads right.”

“August leave her alone.” Chandra pulled me into a hug. “Nice to finally meet you babe. And thank you for all your help. Me, the kids, Aug, we appreciate it.” She kissed my cheek.

“Aww, it’s no problem girl. I can’t wait to meet your daughters. Aug talks about them all the time.”

“Oh my God, them and Aug are inseparable. He’s a great uncle.”

“Am I? I didn’t know you felt that way Cha. Brings a tear to my eye.” He play cried.

“Boy shut-up.” We laughed.
