I speak in stories. No, I do not begin every sentence with Once upon a time. And no I do not speak in extravagant, non-relatable quotes and misconceptions. Rather, to connect to the conversation I tell a story.

This one random conversation, I had somehow been placed in was about dogs. The people in the group were each talking about their own dogs and rating them on a cuteness factor. Then they proceed to the differences between dog breeds and so. To have an input in the conversation, I decided to tell the story of when my dog, Simon, had an incident with another poodle. On my part, I thought it was pretty clever and interesting. To the others, not so much.

Why is disturbing to me is that my addition was not immediately accepted and added to the conversation? Why do I have to give facts and numbers instead of relatable stories and gimmicks? Perhaps, I just did not tell it correctly. Perhaps, my stutter kicked in. But, perhaps, I told it perfectly and it was not considered normal.

I speak in stories.
