when i got released from the hospital, i was first on a restriction of only 75 carbs. oh wait, did i mention?? type one diabetics count carbs, type two have to count sugars. at least that's what i know from my grandma. i'm not sure because carbs and sugar are often used as the same word but my grandpa counts sugars, i count carbs. so yeah, i was on a restriction of only 75 carbs. this kinda annoyed me because with insulin there is no restriction, but i dealt with it and only ate an oreo shake for my first meal,(like why does it have 79 carbs!?). now you may be wondering how to calculate carbs. it's really simple, but complicated. you have a unit to carb ratio. at first i think mine was 10 (varies to person), i took 1 unit of insulin for every 10 carbs. so for my 79 oreo shake i just take 10.5 units, which was hard because i had a suregan and vile back then (more on that later) this is possible on a calculator by adding up all the carbs and (in this case) dividing by 10 and taking that as units. you also have a thing called a sliding scale. it's really just a fancy word. back then i had the, take 1 unit of insulin for every blood sugar 50 ml above 150. so if my blood sugar is below 150, no insulin regarding blood sugar, but if it was say, 250 i would take 2 units plus whatever carbs were.

lets give an example.

i can't believe i just googled that......

4.1! and your blood sugar is. 231, so you have to take 2 units. and 4.1 plus 2 is 6.1 but that is waaay to precise, so only 6 units. easier then you think hmm?

let's talk about getting the insulin. there are three types. a syringe and vile, a pen, and a pump. you start off with a syringe and vile.
