"akaashi keiji, please head to the front office," the announcements rang over the loudspeakers.

akaashi was going to get lunch, but instead, he sighed and stared sadly at the cupcake in his hand that he was so excited to eat. he set the cupcake dow and turned the opposite direction towards the front office. when he reached the office he opened the door and went straight to the receptionist at her desk.

"excuse me ma'am, i'm akaashi keji, what did they need me down here for?" akaashi asked politely.

the receptionist looked up, her glasses dangerously close to sliding off the bridge of her nose.

"the principal wants you to show a new kid around the school," she said, pointing to the chairs that sat in the corner of the front office.

in one of the seats was a boy with white and black hair that was spiked up. to be honest, akaashi thought it looked ridiculous. but the boys face was quite nice looking, with big round eyes that seemed to hold the sun in them. the boy was looking straight at the window that overlooked the school's courtyard. he didn't realize the boy was there until the receptionist pointed him out. he turned back to the receptionist.

"not to sound rude ma'am, but why did the principal want me to show him around? don't the third years normally do this kind of stuff?"

"they do, but they're out on a college tour today so there's no one else to show him around."

akaashi mentally facepalmed himself for being so idiotic. of course the third years were out touring colleges. it was the fifth day of the new school year, they always go on this day.

"right, my apologies."

he turned to face the boy who was now looking at him, his eyes seemed as though they were boring straight through akaashi's soul. akaashi found his gaze to be a little uncomfortable. he walked up to the boy and held his hand out,

"hello, my name is akaashi keiji, and im a second year. im supposed to be your guide."

the boy smiled. to say the least, akaashi wishes he was wearing a pair of sunglasses. if his eyes weren't bright enough already, his smile burned akaashi's corneas.

"hi! im bokuto koutarou, and im a third year!"

his voice was, unsurprisingly so, very bright and cheerful sounding.

bokuto got out of the chair and took akaashi's hand and shook it. akaashi smiled slightly. he showed bokuto out the door of the front office, and they went into the hallway.

akaashi felt awkward, he didn't know whether or not he should say something to spark a conversation between the two. he looked over at bokuto, but bokuto didn't look awkward. he was looking at the schools scenery with something akin to awe.

silence continued for another minute. at this point akaashi felt suffocated in the silence. akaashi wasn't a talkative person, he was perfectly content with not talking to anyone during the school day. however in this particular setting, he felt like he needed to say something.

he was going to open his mouth and just say whatever the first thing his brain thought of saying, but bokuto beat him to the chase. the sound of his voice caught akaashi off guard.

"you know, my old school was nowhere near this big," bokuto said.

"what school did you used to go to?"

"nekoma."

akaashi sighed out an 'ah' to show he heard what bokuto said.

"so what is your schedule?" akaashi asked. he figured he should probably ask before he shows bokuto the entirety of the school.

"oh right! my schedule!" bokuto shoved his hand into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper that was folded and had slight creases in it.

he hands it to akaashi. slowly and carefully, akaashi opened up bokuto's schedule making sure not to rip it. he read it to himself quietly:

1st period-world history
2nd period-modern literature
3rd period-chemistry II
4th period-buisness and fianace
5th period-lunch
6th period-probability and statistics
7th period-english II
8th period-geography
9th period-study hall

"oh, we have some classes together," akaashi mused.

"but aren't you a second year?"

"yes, but i take some third year classes."

"oh, so akaashi keji's character is the smart kind," bokuto said with a thoughtful yet joking tone to his voice.

it was the first time bokuto said akaashi's name, and it sounded weird when it rolled off his tongue. most people pronounced akaashi's name "ah-kah-she" but the way bokuto said it, was different. he overproduced the "kah" part. but akaashi didn't mind, he thought it was unique to bokuto in that sense.

the rest of the period akaashi showed bokuto around the school. akaashi showed him his classes, and pointed out which classes they had together. he showed bokuto the areas that he would need to know about such as the library, nurses office, guidance office, lunch hall, where his locker was, etc.

throughout the time they held multiple conversations with each other. it wasn't as awkward as akaashi thought it was going to be. but it was mostly bokuto that kept the conversations rolling as he was a very talkative person.

but akaashi didn't mind, he thought it was fun to hang out with a different kind of person than he wouldn't normally associate with (though akaashi didn't associate himself with a lot of people).

when the day ended they both headed to their lockers, which were only a couple lockers down from each other.

"so do you do any after school clubs or sports?" bokuto asked.

"sometimes i have to stay after for student government but that doesn't happen too often."

he looked up at bokuto who's face had a blank yet slightly sad look to it.

"what's wrong?" akaashi asked, wanting to know what seemed to so quickly dampen the orders mood.

"it's just that i was hoping that you could show me around the clubs and stuff, but i get that you probably want to go home."

"oh," was all akaashi could muster in that first few seconds.

he was surprised to know that bokuto wanted akaashi to show him around the clubs considering multiple other students have offered to show bokuto to multiple different sport clubs. to be fair bokuto did have a lot of muscle to him that would spark people to want to recruit them for their sport's team.

"well i mean, i can still show you to the clubs if you want me to. i have nothing else to do after school," akaashi admitted.

"really!?" bokuto asked, his face lighting up.

"yeah, sure."

"thanks 'kaashi! you're the best!"
