PROLOGUE
"MOM! I NEED TO GO TO JESSE'S HOUSE NOW! WE ARE SEEING CATCHING FIRE!"
My mom's tired face popped around the table. "OK, but you have to be back by midnight."
I smile. I will be back by then obviously. I am not a drunk person, and I hate to go out past nine. I can't even imagine myself going to parties, I've never been to one that has drugs and sex "You know me mom, I won't do that."
She smiles at me. "I know but I am just making sure. I'm you're mother you know, you should know what it's like to watch your daughter go out without a parent, sometimes its a bit scary."
I remember my little sister, who died from cancer. I always had looked after her and I was like her mother but then she finally got a deadly coma which ended her life. Before she got cancer she was always going out with her friends and sometimes it scared me, and maybe it made me a bit jealous because she could go out by herself with friends and I couldn't because I was too scared. I watch 60 minutes people get kidnapped all the time.
I walk out the front door and Jesse is already waiting for me.
"Hey," I say.
"Hey," He says. "I was waiting for you for like ten minutes. Is everything OK?"
"Ya." I say back.
We get into his car and he drives to the cinema. We line up and I squeal over the guy that acts Peeta Mellark in the movie Catching Fire. That's the movie we are going to see if you didn't catch on to that.
Jesse frowns. "He is not even hot have you seen his jaw? It's like, HUGE!"
I slap his arm. "I am just fangirling you weirdo, of course I'm not really into him."
Jesse nods playfuly. "I know. I'm just being overprotective."
I grin. "Since when was Jesse Mel ever overprotective?"
"Since now." He says.
We pay for the tickets, and the guy at the counter looks at me and his eyes fill with lust.
"Hey Babe," the counter guy says. "How was your day?"
Jesse gags in disgust while I say, "Good, and I can see what you're trying to do. You just ruined my day."
The counter guy's face drops and Jesse smacks my back and tells me, "good one!"
When I turn away the guy at the counter wolf whistles and says, "Look at her butt!"
Jesse turns around and slaps him. He smirks, and he doesn't even look hurt. "What, is the chick your girlfriend?"
Jesse shakes his head. "No, she's my best friend, you sleezy turd. Stay away from her, she can do better."
The counter guy laughs loudly. "I bet your lousy anyway."
Jesse turns around on his heel and grabs my shoulder, and leads me away. "He's an ass."
I nod. "I know."
We make our way into the cinema, and I get totally hooked into the story. (Yes, I read the book, but I didn't expect the movie to be this good).
It got up to the part where Katniss and Peeta start kissing on the beach. Jesse squirms next to me and I notice he leans closer towards me. I frown. I hope he wasn't thinking about making a move, especially in a movie theatre, because 1. I don't like him, he's like my brother (Ew!) and 2. thats way too cliche for me.
I realize he's actually just leaning down to have a drink, and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. CRAP, that made me hyperventilate so bad.
When the movie ended, I smiled; damn, that was the best damn movie I've ever seen. Soon enough, we're out the door and I get a call from my mom.
Mom:
Bad news. Get home now
Crap. What was wrong? I texted back, "Jesse's drivng me home now. See you soon."
Jesse looks at me. "Whats wrong?"
I sigh. "Something happened with mom. I;m not sure exactly, but I hope she's safe.
Jesse laughed. "She's fine. You probably got caught for making the guy at the counter horny."
I slapped his face, literally. "Don't talk like that, if I didn't know you better I would have called you horny."
He laughed again. "OK, I get it. Let''s just get you home."
My mom texted me again,
"Come STRAIGHT HOME, hurry up!"
I texted back, "OK MOM I GET IT!"
I sigh. "Jesse, be quick. My mom is really desperate."
