Darling's POV One.
My name is Darling, Darling Evers. I live in a big house in Massachusetts with my mother, my sister Dear, and our dogs, Roamer and Shad. The house lays on a woodsy plot, with not many neighbors. It is the epitome of privacy. Maybe that's why I was so shocked when my Mom told me we would have guests. Long term guests, meaning they'd probably live with us for a long while. Great..
"Darling! Our guests will be here at noon! Get ready." My mom called to me. I rolled out of my tall bed and onto the floor. The carpet beneath my feet was lush cream colored berber, swishing under my socks on the way to the bathroom. The bathroom door pushed outwards, almost hitting me. I was basically still asleep, after all.
The clock on the wall read 11:30, meaning I needed to start getting ready. The hot water steamed up the whole room; the way I liked it. I washed my dark brown hair, and got out. That was one of my proudest attributes. It was so dark it was almost black, coming down to my shoulders in soft, smooth waves. My bangs swept across my eyes, which were yellow and blue, heterochromatic.
A/N Google "heterochromia" to see what I mean.
My eyes were the other favorite thing. I swept some black kohl eyeliner under them, with mascara and a very light application of off-white eyeshadow under the eyeliner. A trick I'd picked up from Lianne, one of my two best friends, and a Vogue addict.
I dressed in a hurry, a simple white tank top with black fringe, under a red blouse, with white jeans. I heard the crunch of gravel outside, scrunched my hair and prepared to go down to the foyer.
"Dear? Darling? Come down please!" My mother called in a pleasant voice. My sister, Dear's room was closer to the stairs, so she was already going down the stairs. She was my younger sister, only 14. Yet, we were almost identical, only her eyes were both blue. I was almost 18.
I could hear voices way down in the foyer as I followed Dear's eager stride. A soft, gentle woman's voice, my mother's voice and..someone else. A male. Dear seemed to hear it, too, as she turned and arched her eyebrow at me. I shrugged at her.
The long hallway opened up into a huge foyer, where two unfamiliar people stood, bags near them. I entered the room behind my sister and smiled at the woman. Dear, on the other hand was gawking at the boy in the room. She began to violently poke me, and I shifted my eyes to him.
I gasped, as our eyes met. Was that...?
