I've heard so many stories about it: colors. I only see things in black and white. And gray. My mom once told me that when she met my father, a tree became green. She saw it, he saw it. They looked at each other, talked, and finally fell in love and married. He's her soulmate.
I haven't found mine yet.
I'm eighteen and I haven't found my soulmate yet.
My sister would say "It's gonna be totally fine. It will happen!" But she can't say it. She's gone.
Most people find their soulmate around the age of twelve or thirteen.
I didn't.
I asked myself so many questions.
Did he die?
Where is he?
In what country does he live?
Oh, I think I forgot to mention that my soulmate is a boy.
Girls get boys and boys get girls. That's how it works.
Where are you? I ask myself for the thousandth time.
No response. Didn't expect so anyways.
I decide to go for a walk. I need new shoes so I can buy them now.

When I walk outside, a plant catches my eye. Not just a normal plant, it's not black, or grey, or white. It's-
It's colored!
I almost scream when I realize what this mean; my soulmate is close!
I look around, trying to find someone who looks at the plant just like I did.
Then I see him.
My mom once told me that you see your soulmate in color, I never realized how awesome that must be.
He sees me, his eyes widen and then he walks towards me.
He's around my age, has darkbrown hair, and his eyes-
They're the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen.
They're bright blue, and he has long eyelashes. I almost forget how to breathe.
"Hi," He says.
How do I respond?
"Hi..."
"I'm Carmen James," he says.
It's a beautiful name. Fits good with this beautiful boy.
"I... I'm Tanya Camyen..." I manage to say.
"Hi Tanya, I think we should... try to get to know each other a bit better...?" He asks insecure.
"Yeah, I think so." We both laugh.
"You wanna come with me?" I ask, "to my place?"
He nods. "Sure, sounds good."
We walk back to my house, or, my mom's house... and when we get there, and I open the door, my mom comes running towards us.
"Who is this?" She asks.
"Mom, this is Carmen James. And... I think he's my soulmate..." I say.
My mom almost screams. "Aah I'm so happy for you! Welcome, Carmen. I am Lindsey Camyen, Tanya's mother."
"Nice to meet you." Carmen says.
"You want something to drink?" I ask.
"Yeah, some water would be nice."
"I'm right back." I say.

"Who is this person, on the photo?" Carmen asks when I get back into the room. He points at the photo of my sister.
I put the glass on the table. "That's my sister, Harmony. She... she died a few months ago."
He nods. "I'm sorry for your loss."
"I don't want to talk about it."
"Sure, that's fine." Yet he looks a bit shocked. Did he know her?
"So," I say, "tell me something about yourself."
"Well, I'm nineteen years old, I don't have any siblings... my parents left me three years ago and since then I've been living by myself. I have a job at a good company, I've got a little apartment so... yeah, I think that's the most interesting thing you'll ever hear about me..."
"What do you like to do?" I ask.
"I like singing, mostly rock." He says.
"Rock's cool."
"Yeah."
"What about you," he asks. "Tell me about yourself."
"I'm eighteen years old, I've been living in this house since I was two years old. I have a pretty good relationship with both my parents and when I get older I want to become a veterinarian. I've always loved animals and I want to help them."
He nods again.
"So... what now?" I ask.
"I don't know... you tell me." He laughs. He's cute when he laughs.
"Well, I still gotta graduate." I say. "Did you graduate?"
"No," he says, "I quit school when I was sixteen. I had to earn money after my parents left and I didn't have enough time."
"Then how do you have this job, at that company you talked about?"
"I have friends. One of them owns a company and decided to employ me."
"Aah, okay."
"Can you tell me something about your sister? She seems like a nice person." Carmen asks.
"Uhm... sure... She was 21 when she died. She was killed. We had a very good relationship and I miss her so much." I feel like I can start crying any second.
He nods. "What was she like?"
"Kind, she always wanted to help people. She was studying to become a psychologist. She didn't have many friends but she didn't care. She always said that she'd rather have a few friends who really care than thousand fake friends."
"Okay."
He looks at that photo like he has seen her before.
"Have you met her?"
He looks at me. "No? Why'd you think that?"
"I don't know..."
There's something not quite right with this boy. I have to find out what.
