This I wrote when my friend was in an abusive relationship, so I guess a trigger warning is in order:

WARNING: abusive relationship (both physical and mental is mentioned)

Also, there is one swear word (s**t) in case you are sensitive to that!

Thanks!

————————————————————————

The day I met you I was charmed with your smile

Your eyes dance around the room and you made it worth while

It dazzled, and you were a good guy.
I thought I knew all that from a smile.

The day I met you you told me there was someone I outta meet

And she was more than just sweet.
When she laughed the world laughed, when she cried the world wept and when she danced, the world played her accompaniment.

She was all the grace of a rose with no thorns, but how did I not see the warn-ing signs, she grew more beautiful every day to hide the war underneath her skin, to hide that the garden of her heart was filled with thistles that you planted as you whistled when she walked by.

You made her cry.

And yet everyone else passed it by.
No one noticed that when you held her, your arms were shackles and chains you forced her brain to conform to your ways, to live inside a box, to bare YOUR pain.

You should be ashamed.

She cannot be hugged by her best friend without remembering the nights when you wrapped your arms in the same position, forcing her into submission, creating scars that no one will ever see because you created them verbally.

In a world so obsessed with the tangible and visual, we believe that physical is the only way to bear pain. And though you caused that too, the wounds on her mind are worse than on her skin. No unconcented touch will leave more marks than the the guilt that bore into her morbid mind, that tore through her love and replaced it with your crime, and manipulation climbed its way to the core of her being as you watched from the sidelines.

Cheering on her self destruction, writing her the instructions on how to slowly die. And yet, you apologize!

You swear that it will never happen again when I fully know that 10/10 times that statement is a lie. And yet I can never tell you this.

You are as far gone as she is and you wouldn't be able to handle it, well guess what?

Shes taken this shit for too long and I will not sit around and watch I've already sat for too long.

Drowning in the sewage that is your broken promises.

The day I met you I was blind.

I couldn't find anything wrong. I was part of the problem. Well I'll be damned if she has to wear your emblem across her chest any longer.

You don't own her chest! Or her heart or her mind! In fact one day, you may wake up to find her gone. That your swan has flown on to bigger and better things. But until then, you will carry on the same routines. You will, in public, treat her like a queen and then go home and enjoy her screams.

But the part that gets me, the part that fills my throat with bile is that all the while, you smile.

You've reached the end of published parts.
