Brads POV
I sat in English class and sighed. What was I going to do? Yesterday, we took a test and I failed it. I got a 54% on it. I knew Mom and Dad were going to kill and ground me when they found out. They wanted us to get at least Cs if not Bs but no Ds or Fs. They loved As but it wasn't demanded from us.
"Brad, I want you to have your parents sign this and bring it back. I expect that you'll take a retest on Friday after school," Mrs. Stein looked at me.
I gave an, are you kidding me?, look towards her. "Why? I have soccer practice and a game on Saturday!"
"School comes before soccer."
I groaned and looked at Randy who shrugged at me. It's weird having my little brother in the same class as I was, but he was advanced in all subjects. It also helped me stop people from bullying him. I was known as being a popular jock while Randy was still popular but kind of a wimp. Randy wasn't into the stuff that Dad and I were (cars and tools. He liked sports). He was more into the stuff that Mom and Hannah ((A/N: an oc daughter) liked: theater, reading etc.
Before I could do anything, I heard what sounded like a gunshot in the hallway. Panic started to rise in me and I quickly looked at Randy. He was panicking and would need an inhaler. Randy had asthma that was triggered by overexhertion.
People screamed down the hall and I kept my gaze on Randy. He and I both knew what it was. We needed to get out and it needed to be now!
"Don't panic, but we need to get out of the classroom and it needs to be now. Leave all your belongings behind and follow me. Stay quiet."
We got up and Randy sprinted to me. His eyes were showed that he was petrified. Tears gleamed in his eyes. He simply did not know what to do. I too was terrified, but I hid it. I wanted to be safe for Randy's sake.
"Brad, he's right there! What do we do?" Randy had tears in his eyes. We exchanged a silent look. It meant that we both wanted our parents.
"I want you guys to follow the escape route that we practiced in our drill." She pushed us out the door and shut off the lights, locking the door.
"Brad..." Randy whispered. "I-I think I'm going to have an asthma attack."
"Quiet, Randall," Mrs. Stein scolded as I started to get angry. We needed Mom and Dad. We needed them now.
We started running down the hallway, making sure to go as fast as we can. Randy grabbed onto me in tears and clutched onto my arm tightly. My heart broke for him. He was as terrified as I was but had asthma. I wanted to give him a hug and I never want to do that. Randy is calm and collected usually but I didn't blame him for crying.
"You could run faster, you know," Jeremy's voice startled Randy. He gripped my arm even tighter. Jeremy pushed Randy and my anger burned towards him. How did Jeremy expect him to run if he was out of breath?
Putting my anger aside (right now we needed to get out alive), I focused on getting myself and Randy out of harm's way. Right now wasn't the time to get revenge. We needed to get out alive, let the paramedics look over us and I needed to make sure Randy had his inhaler.
"Leave my brother alone," I whispered and we continued running to the door.
Randy was having a hard time breathing and I was regretting that we were on the second floor. We had a flight of stairs to go down to the main hall plus we had to run down the hall out the door, running to the front of the school. It was quite a lot on Randy's poor lungs. Though it was a lot, we still needed to do it. I didn't have time to give Randy a puff of air.
