"I swear to you!" I yelled at her, quickly noticing the people around us, and lowering my voice. "I'm not crazy." I have to reassure my mother of this constantly. She still doesn't believe me.
My name is Carter, well, it was, in my last life. In this life, my name is Ethan, Ethan Jones, but I hate Ethan. In my last life, Ethan was the playground bully, and I was his top choice target. I refuse to be called Ethan. So I go by Carter, besides Carter sounds cooler than Ethan. You're probably a little bit confused about what I mean by the whole "past life," "this life" thing I keep talking about, right? Well let me give you a little run down.
Everyone has lived a past lives. This one we're living, is not our first. We're not supposed to know that though, I'm still not sure why I do. I only remember my last life though. My life as Carter Dalton. No one believes me about their "past life," but I know it's true. I remember everything about my life as Carter. I remember my best friend, my soulmate, my parents, all of it. Just not their names. At least not until I see them, then something clicks in my brain, and I just remember.
I have yet to re-meet my best friend, and my soulmate in my new life. I didn't get a chance to re-meet my parents. They found each other though. I saw them, laying right next to each other, 5 feet under. This time, they died in a house fire. I don't know if that's better or worse than how they did in their last lives. Cancer is a bitch that got them both in their last lives. Turns out they only lived a block away from me. I saw them in the news, my heart sank when I saw their eyes.
When I re-meet people, they don't look the same, except for their eyes. So far, everyone's eyes have been the same as they were. I think that's how I can tell who is who.
I re-met my boss last week. I guess this life isn't treating him as well as his last. I re-met him on the corner of 9th and Helensburgh in his home, a cardboard box. He re-met his soul mate though, I'm assuming it's because of Max that he is living on the street. Too bad his parents from this life aren't as accepting as the ones from his last life.
I've seen many people I knew in my L.A.C. (Life As Carter) that have re-met their soul mates. This has lead me to believe that we all have the same soulmates in every life, so now I have to find mine.
I'm excited to re-meet her.
My mom looks up at me from her menu. She took me out to my favorite restaurant, I'm assuming it's so I wouldn't cause a scene as she tells me she would like me to try therapy to get over this whole "past life" thing.
"Therapy doesn't mean you're crazy Ethan."
"Carter Mom, my name is Carter." I remind her.
"Not according to your birth certificate." My mom loves to remind me that my legal name is no longer Carter. "You are Ethan. You are my 16 year old son, and I'm worried about you. E."
"I am Carter."
"You are stubborn." She took a deep breathe. "Ethan-"
"I am Carter."
"Ethan-"
"I am Carter."
She took a deep breathe again. "Carter," she paused to see she finally had my attention, smiling, she went on, "please, try therapy?"
After a long pause, I answered, "I'll think about it."
My mother's face lit up, astonished, but eager, "You'll think about it? That's great! Oh Eth-"
"As long as you will call me Carter, and stop telling me I am crazy." I paused a moment, "Don't imply it either, that's even more of an insult." I demanded.
Her jaw dropped. "O-o-okay." She mustered out.
