Jinx rolled down his passenger window. He rests his arm on the door and looks over to his case manager. Jinx was a wide chest larger 17-year-old. His hair was shaved on the sides with short gold spikes implanted on 2 rows on each side 10 a row. His black hair thinly dreaded but was barely long enough to reach his neck. He looked over to his case manager. “So how much longer until we’re there and explain to me what there is again” “Jay I told you it’s a good hour away we’ve been in the car for maybe 20 minutes” “I told you its Jinx.” “Well Jinx if you were paying attention at your last court date they’re putting you in the group home…” Casey scrambled at his papers half paying attention to the road. “St. Pete Mental Home for Children, but Ja-Inx, this is mandatory” “Mandatory like the last ones, right? besides seriously? I’m 17. And I’m not mental, I passed 2nd grade!” “Jinx this is serious… You cannot leave, if you do they’ll send you to Briarcliff” “The asylum?!” His case manager nodded. Jinx looked down realizing the seriousness of his dilemma. “So, it’s a group home… Great let me guess gotta deal with this for a whole year” “Well you can stay for longer but yes at least until your 18” Jinx hits his passenger dash “Great just great this is exactly what I needed” “Jay you did this to yourself” Jinx glared at her and put his earbuds in and looked at his phone. He blasted his music into his ears and sighed “It can’t be that bad I guess”.
Jinx jumped to a horn waking him up “No officer” he spat out tiredly. His case manager slugged him on the shoulder “Very funny, now get up we’re here” “Oh shiver me timbers oh how excited I am” Jinx got out the car and did an over exaggerated stretch. He looked up to what looked like a college. “Should we lock arms and skip there?” Jinx offered her his arm but she only looked at him and let out a short guffaw. “Well okie dokie then, I don’t need your arm anyways.” Jinx opens the dark solid door for his case manager. They both walk up to the counter in a rather small room with only two doors. One to go outside and the other which appears to lead into the home. They both walk to a younger lady who greets them at the counter “Well hello to St. Pete Mental Home for Children. How may I help you?” “Yes, hello this is Jayden- “Casey’s words were blocked out when Jinx’s eye was caught when two girls walked past him. They both stopped and looked at him in unison. “Hello, I’m Sally and this is my sister Trinity” the other shorter girl looked up at jinx and waved. Jinx returned his attention on Sally “Well hello I’m Jayden but people call me Jinx.” “Well hello Jinx and welcome to St. Pete’s personal trash can or as everyone here calls it, the house of Hell” Jinx smirked at the name laughing a bit, when his case managers taps him “So jinx… this is your home. I set everything up and your good to go. You know how to contact me and I’ll always pickup” “Thanks Casey… I will call” “And here’s all your info… Good luck Jinx.” She handed him what seemed like a book all about him. He turned back to Sally but Trinity has disappeared. He looked at where she once stood “Don’t worry about her… She vanishes all the time, Now Jack will show you to your room.” Jinx didn’t notice the edgy looking kid with green flippy hair staring at them with extremely large eyes. Jinx looked at Casey and mouthed the words “What the H- “Casey shrugged as Jack grabbed him and yanked him into the main building. Casey giggled and with a sad smile left Jinx behind. Many people dressed freely and looked like they were having a good time until they saw the new comer. Everybody gawked at Jinx as he walked with Jack to two large red doors at the back of the room. Jack opened them and led Jinx into a narrow, high ceiling corridor with many separate doors. The white walls and red carpeting uneased Jinx. Jack spoke in a higher pitched voice “May I see your papers?” “Ugh yeah here” Jinx gave him the folded papers Casey gave him before. Jack gave a pitiful laugh. ” Floor 2 hall 28 room 15” “Why is that a bad room?” “Ugh you can decide for yourself” Jinx followed Jack and knocked. “GO AWAY” Jack looked at Jinx. “Told you.” “Well they don’t pay me to do this and well this is your room. Good luck.” Jack walked away rather in a hurry. Jinx slowly opened the door to a smaller room. He quickly examined the room. One side looked like nobody has touched it in years. Everything neat. The other covered in posters, black bed with tons of CDs stacked. The bathroom door was closed, the shower on. Jinx set his bags on the empty bed unpacking his stuff. The shower turned off. Jinx a little anxious to find out who his new roommate is twiddled with his thumbs. Trinity in nothing but a towel opens the door. Her face turns red and she quickly shuts the door. “Um, Sorry I’m, ugh your new roommate, I take it you need privacy?” a soothing voice spoke back. “No, its fine I have clothes in here I think... Ugh yeah I do.” Trinity came out in an oversized shirt and skinny jeans. She sighed examining Jinx. “So, you’re my roommate huh?” “They seem to think so” Jinx examined Trinity, she was cute. Short with long black hair. Her skin as pale as snow, wearing all red with red lipstick. He didn’t mean to stare. He was broken from it when the door slammed. Trinity looked up and appeared to be livid as another girl walked it. Taller, dike hair and narrow shaped body. “Lainey, I told you like a week ago we were over, get out.” “But baby I’m so sor- ““Don’t call me that I haven’t loved you in a long time. Now get out” “Trin baby I didn’t mean to cheat it was movie night!” Jinx realizing the seriousness of what was being talked about kept to himself. Lainey looked at Jinx. “And who the hell are you?! Trin you know better to invite males over I don’t appreciate it.” “Well one he’s my new roommate who will be sleeping feet away from me every night. Two I don’t care what you think. Three he’s new leave him alone he doesn’t deserve your torment” Lainey clearly royally pissed off marched out slamming the door behind her. Jinx awkwardly looked up “So this weather we’re having” Trinity chuckled a little. “Sorry about that… If you didn’t pick it up we dated and she couldn’t handle my cold black heart” She spoke with extreme sarcasm in her voice. “So, she went to some other guy” Jinx laughed “Well sorry to hear that. Sounds tough.” “Yeah I’ll be alright. Just gives me more opportunity’s really. Well newbie its almost 5 which is supper time. Ill introduce you to my little group” Jinx nodded getting up, walking out the door with her. They went to the room Jinx was previously gawked at. He could feel every eye digging into his soul. The room was designed as if it were a real kitchen in a real home. Trinity sat next to Sally leaving Jinx a spot. Next to him was Jack and another male.” “Jinx! Hey, it’s Jack from earlier, Remember?!” Trin grinned and chuckled a little. “Yeah I remember... It was half an hour ago…” Jack seemed extremely flattered that Jinx remembered him. Next to him was another male dressed in bright colors. “So, you’re the new guy huh? I’m Alex I’m this idiots’ other half.” Jinx noticed Alex and Jack holding hands. He turned his attention to the last members of the group. Two girls dressed in older grey school clothes. They can’t be older than 15. They spoke in unison and Jinx swore they never blinked. “Hello.” The two talking in a hollow voice startled Jinx. They both laughed and then spoke in normal voices but still in unison. “Hello, I’m Lyrica,” “I’m Ivy” “We’re twins” “Um, Hi, I’m ugh, Jinx” Jinx turned his attention back to Trinity who is silently dying of laughter, hiding her face with her hands. A loud speaker came on. “Table 9 may eat. Table 9 may eat” Everybody but Trinity got up to wait in line. Jinx looked at Trinity then looked at the line the rest of his new-found friends were in. He saw Jack jumping up and down hysterically screaming “TACO NIGGGHHT” and couldn’t help but laugh. “Go on Jinx. You need food” He went into line picking up a plate of a surprisingly well-made meal. Jack already sat down reached for a sugar packet. Alex ripped it from his hands. “Last thing you need is sugar” Jack reached for it and ripped off the top as Alex yanked it back the sugar being dumped all on Jinx’s chest. He looked back to Trinity stretching her bones fully exposed. As he sat down, trying to brush the sugar off he passed his plate to Trinity. “Eat up, Bones” Jinx kept his water however. “Mnk whatever you say sugartits.” Jinx choked on his water and looked at Trinity. “Hey, I’m just pointing out the obvious.” Jinx tried not to laugh. Trin picked at her food. Jack broke the silence. “So, sense our wing is on the good list wanna come to me and Alex’s room to watch a movie?” Lyrica and Ivy in unison excitingly said yes along with Sally. Trin and Jinx kept quiet. Sally turned his head to Trin. “You’re coming to Missy” “Alright as long as Jinx comes.” “Ooooo” Jinx turned bright red as the whole tabled said this loudly. “No not like that I have to watch him for a week remember?” Sally nudged Trinity as she rolled her eyes. “Well What are we waiting for!?” Jack breaking the O’s grabbed Jinx and yanked him out of his seat skipping to their room. Everybody else followed. As they approached Jack and Alex’s door Jinx’s phone vibrated. It was just a text from Casey reading “How are things?” But Jinx pretended to answer a phone call “Hello? Yeah hold on guys I’ll come in , in a minute” Once everybody went in Jinx put his phone in his pocket. “I’ve never been one for movies either.” Jinx jumped when he turned around Trinity crossing her eyes on of her eyebrows raised. “I- Ugh was gonna go-“ “Come with me” Jinx looked at her confused. “I didn’t realize I had a stuttering problem. Should probably get that checked.” Jinx a little embarrassed followed. “I’m coming I’m coming.” Trinity led him to the end of the hallway and pick locked what seemed to be like a storage room. As she opened it all there was, was a ladder. They both went up onto the roof. Jinx eyes almost immediately were sucked into all the stars. And the forest surrounding the large building. He didn’t realize trin swinging her legs off the edge until she pulled him down with her. “Jinx… You seem nice and all but… You should probably get out of this place.” “Why? It seems nice actually.” “I know it’s not that bad but just… Trust me… Come here.” Trin got up and pointed to about 5 feet away from the edge. “Okay now what?” Trinity pulled his chin down and quickly but smoothly kissed him before running and jumping off the edge. “TRINITY” Still stunned Jinx ran to the edge but to find nothing at the bottom, no blood no body nothing. Before he felt a push. He wailed his arms in the air before waking up in the room from his alarm going off on his phone. Trinity came out of the bathroom dressed the same as last night. “What- how am I... what?” “What are you talking about you fell asleep at Alex’s place and I dragged you in here.” Jinx noticed her lipstick and jeans messed up with dirt on her knees. He turned over and passed out.
