~ Chapter 1 ~

~ Millie ~
The blaring sound of the school bell rang through my ears when everyone jumped up, screaming running out of the room. I finished writing down the answer to the equation and slowly packed up my books into my bag along with my pens taking my time so I wouldn't have to get stuck in the crowd of sweaty people.
I pulled out my phone and checked for notifications when I found two from my mom,
Momma Bear 💫 "Hey sweetie, have to work night shift again tonight. Left over pasta in the oven for you and Ava. See you in the morning baby bear love you"
Followed by another,
Momma Bear 💫 "oh and that's another thing, you need to take care of Ava tonight thanks sweetie"
I sighed as I read the message because it was the fourth time this week that she told me to babysit. I didn't mind it that much, Ava is the most amazing kid you could ever look after. Just throw Frozen on the TV and she will be glued there for the rest of the night until she slowly fell asleep. It was kinda a routine now. Dinner, Frozen, fall asleep in the couch and then I'd take her to bed. As I said, I didn't mind it but it would be nice to see my mom once in a while. I mean she is my mom.
I placed my phone in my pocket of my jeans and threw my bag over my shoulder and walked out of the classroom making sure to say goodbye to Mr Harbour and wish him a nice summer. I shoved my hands in my jacket pockets and made my way to my locker and grabbing a few books to take home for the summer when a certain red head came sprinting at me.
"Hey mills!" Sadie squeezed as she ran up behind me and squeezed me tightly.
"Hey sads. So my mom is working a late shift again tonight. Sleepover?" I said in return hoping she said yes. She was always good with kids. Especially Ava. She loved Ava. She would actually sit and watch Frozen with her mostly every day as she is always hanging out at my house after school and she'd never get bored of it.
"Yeah sure. Just let me go home quick and grab some stuff. Wanna come with?" She answered.
"Yeah okay. Ava won't be back until 4 as she has a play date" I replied. It was currently 3:05 so we had a while.
We exited the school gates and started walking to Sadies house chatting about the most random things you could think of. It was only two blocks away and my house was across the street from hers which was convenient.
"What do you want to do this summer?" Sadie asked, I sighed and thought for a while.
"Sleep... hang out with you... sleep..."
I replied smiling at the thought of sleep.
"Come on seriously?" She replied laughing.
"Isn't it time for you to get a boyfriend? Like you don't even talk to anyone apart from me and Noah". Sadie asked wiggling her eyebrows making me roll my eyes. Sadie and Noah where my best friends. I met them both in kindergarten and we instantly knew that we'd be friends forever. Noah was out of town this summer and he left yesterday. He would be coming back one week before school starts again so I will be able to hang out with him for a little while.
I thought about what Sadie said to me for a second. It would be nice to get to meet someone and actually fall in love with them but I have never felt that before. How do you know if you love someone? I guess I've never thought about it.
"I don't know. I am the most socially awkward person ever and you expect me to meet a boy?" I replied raising my eyebrows.
"I can help with that" Sadie replied winking. I had no idea why she was winking so I just went along with it and by the time we finished talking we were at her door. She barged in dragging me upstairs, ignoring her mom and dad in the kitchen, arguing. Her parents never got on. They would always argue and never pay attention to Sadie. I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot to feed her. But it was okay I guess, she mainly spent time hanging at my place.
She grabbed a converse bag and shoved some spare clothes, a hairbrush, a toothbrush, her charger, her phone and some makeup before she pulled me back out of her door not even taking notice in her parents. Considering they saw me I gave them a smile and they instantly went back to arguing. They guessed she was staying at mine by looking at her bag but didn't say anything.
Sadie slammed the door and we ran across the street and walked through my front door. We walked up to my bedroom and she threw her bag on the bed her body following it as she let out a huge sigh.
"I wish my dad would just move away" She said faintly, almost like a whisper.
"It will get better Sads. I promise" I replied shooting her a sad smile.
"No it won't. They hate each other. But I'm cool with that because he is a big dick anyways" she responded chuckling a little.
"I thought you liked your dad?" I said slightly confused.
"I used to but recently he's been getting a lot more angry. I hear loud noises from the kitchen all the time. I think he hurts her" she said whispering the last bit.
"You should talk to your mom. Maybe you could do something about it together" I said with a hopeful tone.
"Maybe... anyway enough of the depressing talk, WE ARE HAVING A SLEEPOVER!" She shouted making me jump slightly. I laughed at her and we ran downstairs to the kitchen making up some popcorn. I finished making the popcorn and Sadie picked a movie out when the doorbell rang. I skipped to the door opening it to reveal little Ava being dropped off by her friend and her friends mom. Ava jumped on me giving me a kiss on the cheek as I thanked the mom closing the door and walking to the couch with Ava in my arms.
"Did you have a good play date Ava?" I asked her with a toothy grin.
"Yeah! We played with our dolly's and had a tea party!" She yelled in response. Before I could reply her eyes bolted to the TV when she saw the movie Sadie put on.
"FROZEN!!!!" She yelled as she cuddled up to Sadie giggling.
I rolled my eyes and decided to watch it anyways.

45 minutes later

My eyes bolted awake as I heard my instagram notification go off. I looked over to my best friend and little sister sleeping without a sound on the other side of the couch as I watched their chests rise and fall slightly.
I unlocked my phone to see that I had a friend request from someone.

I hesitantly pressed on his profile to see he wasn't private and I scrolled through his posts. Damn. He was hot.
Wait Millie what are you thinking you don't even know him! But he is darn cute....
I hovered my finger over accept as I then pushed it down accepting his request and I pressed follow back. I don't know why but that felt like the hardest decision I've ever had to make. But he was very cute...
