The next morning I was walking to school when I felt someone pull my headphones out of my ears. I jumped and heard a familiar laugh followed by a familiar voice say, "Got you!" It was Caleb.

I gave him an evil look than said, "Please... don't do that."

"Sorry, Sadie," he said as a guilty look spread across his face.

"It's fine," I said. Before I realized it, I was speeding up and leaving Caleb behind.

"Sadie, wait!" he yelled. I kept walking. He grabbed my wrist to get me to stop. I winced. "Sadie, is your wrist okay? I'm so sorry I... I didn't mean too I-"

"I'm fine," I said, though I was obviously lying. I forced a smile.

"Sadie, can I see your wrist?" Caleb asked.

I knew it was useless to argue so I slowly raised my sleeve, revealing scars. "Sadie!! You cut yourself?" he asked. I slowly nodded my head, my eyes on my shoes as we walked. He pulled me into a hug. "I'm so sorry."

"Why?" I asked.

"I haven't protected you enough," he spoke quietly.

I smiled at that yet it angered me so much at the same time. "It's whatever," I said as I fixed my sleeve. "Let's just go to school."

School was actually pretty good today. Caleb got detention again for looking at me in math again and not answering the question on the board and "back talking" when he was just saying "I don't know the answer." I feel bad for him. He's in detention because of me. I wonder how much trouble I would get in if... you know what, I'm doing it. I walked into Mrs. Brook's room and said, "Mrs. Brook, may I please join Caleb?" It went a lot better than I thought it would.

"Of course," Mrs. Brook smiled. "Just, please, whisper so I can read in peace?"

"Of course," I smiled. I sat down in the seat next to Caleb.

"How'd you get in trouble?" he asked.

"I guess I was staring at you and I back talked," I winked.

"Oh!!" he spoke, realizing I just came to join him and didn't get in trouble.

"It's a good thing you're pretty," I said, patting his head. He laughed and smiled.

"You're beautiful," he said.

"What?" I asked, a smile never leaving my face.

"You're beautiful. It's exactly what I said," he smiled.

I tried to be mad at him, but I couldn't stop smiling. I felt my face suddenly heat up. "Gosh darn you, Caleb," I said.

"Oof. Sorry. Wait, what did I do?" he smirked.

"I want to slap you so badly right now," I laughed.

And I did. As we started walking out of school, I slapped his head. "Ow!" he exclaimed.

"I warned you. That's what you get!" I smiled.

"For calling you beautiful?" he questioned.

"For making me blush. Making it hard for me to hate you."

"You must not be complimented very often," he guessed.

"It's more like being yelled at and slapped in the face for not being good enough," I smirked.

"Good ENOUGH???? Sadie, you are perfect because you are you. If your parents really don't think so then I will actually fight them. You are the perfect girl ever- smart, pretty, sarcastic, funny- everything a boy could ever want. You... you are... perfect."

"Caleb, there's no such thing as perfect. And if there was, it wouldn't be me. Have a good night, Caleb," I said as I walked into my house.

"Goodnight, Sadie," Caleb said faintly.

He looked like he just had his heart broken. I turned back around, walked up to him, and gave him a hug. As I hugged him, I whispered in his ear, "You are perfect. Not me. We are perfectly imperfect." Then I walked into my house
