Chapter One: I am a secret

I had always wondered what lay over the other half of the island. What secrets were the island hiding from me? Father, the chief of our tribe, says not to go past the field line. But of course me being me, I long to see what Father keeps me from.

My name is Kimi, it means secret. I love my name. It reminds me of how curious I am. How often I keep my little crazy thoughts to myself. I am of course different. But in my eyes, a good different.

I am fourteen years old, I have long brown hair, and one blue eye, the other is grey. Mother says im unique, I believe her. Father doesn't seem happy with me, ever. He is always dissatisfied with my accomplishments, and unhappy with my curiosity. He says a girl like me can not lead a tribe when he's gone. I used to think that's why he was so happy to have my brother. But mother says most men are like this about their sons. I don't like when my father acts like this, like I have nothing worth capable of doing. But I soon learned my Father is a good man, and just wants what is best for his family and his people.
