It was a normal day at the house hold for me.
"Mitch hurry up! Dad will be here in less than 20 minutes now." I called.
"Jane, Drake is throwing ketchup at me!" Jake hid behind me, smoothered in ketchup.
His twin, Drake, came running towards us, holding a bottle of easy squeeze ketchup. He stopped right on his tracks when he saw how serious my face is.
"Whoa. Hey there sis." he hid the bottle of ketchup behind his back.
"Why are you covering your brother in ketchup?" I grunted and grabbed the bottle of ketchup behind his back.
"We were just having fun." he innocently said.
"No we're not." Jake said.
"Yes we are. Whimp." Drake said.
"Cry baby."
"Ugly!"
"Were twins! If I'm ugly then you're ugly too." Jake said.
"Oh. You're right." Drake thought for a moment. "Well your uglier." he stuck his tounge out.
Jake and I face palmed. For a 6 year old, Jake has a mature thinking. Unlike his twin-_-.
I sighed. "Just go get cleaned guys. Dad is almost near."
"Okay." they chorused.
"Hey. First one to get naked in the bathroom wins." Drake said then started running.
"I will not raise you to the bathroom!" Jake grunted and started walking.
"Whimp." Drake shouted.
I laughed at their sillyness. Sometimes, I wonder if they're really twins.
I checked my watch, 5 more minutes before dad arrives.
"Mitch!" I called.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm coming." she ran down the stairs carrying a large sparkly, pink suit case.
I crossed my arm over my chest and cocked my brow at her.
"What?" she asked innocently.
I pointed at her large suit case.
She rolled her eyes. "Well, were going to stay at California for the whole summer, right?"
"Yeah, but that doesn't mean you need to bring your whole wardrobe!"
She rolled her eyes and just passed by me. "Whatever loser. Stop acting like your our mother. And besides this is only a pea amount of my wardrobe."
I clenched my fist and took a deep breath. She's right, I'm not their mother, I'm just their sister.
We have a very complicated family. Our parents got divorced 3 years ago. They're both in new relationships. Mom's husband doesn't want us to live with them while Dad and her wife are always travelling that's why we didn't go with them. So, we're left with our Granny Ollie.
We haven't seen mom for over a year now. Granny said they moved to a new country. Dad is our only supporting parent right now. His taking us to his place for a vacation.
A car beeped outside. That must be dad.
"Twins get down here. Dad's here." I called out for them.
"Coming." they chorused.
I helped them off with their stuff.
"It's okay sis, I can carry it." Jake said.
"Okay. If you insist."
He carried his lougage, trying hard much.
I giggled.
"Drake, come on. Let's say goodbye to Granny." I said.
He nodded and happily skipped beside me.
"Bye Gran-gran." I hugged her. "Take care of yourself here, okay?"
She smiled and kissed my forehead.
She's legally deaf.
Granny Ollie got in a car accident over a year ago. The doctors said she's fine but after two months, Granny had a stroke. There was a blood clot in her brain. Doctors said we need to operate her ASAP but it was a 50/50 chance but we took chance. Thankfully, the operation was a sucess but her stroke led her to numben half of her face.
"Goodbye Granny. I'll miss your choco chip cookies." Drake hugged her.
I hit his head.
"Ow! What?" he rubbed his head.
I gave him a warning look.
"Ohhh." He hugged granny again. "And I'll miss you too Granny." he gave her a peck on the cheek.
"Are you sure you're going to be alright here Granny?" I asked worried.
I asked her several times to come but she says she doesn't like travelling. Well, I don't blame her. If I was in a car accident I'd be scared of travelling too.
She nodded and patted my head.
"Okay then." I sighed then hugged her.
Dad honked the horn of his car, signalling us to come already.
"Well, that's Dad. Bye Gran-gran." I waved at her. "Lani will be here in a minute, okay?" Lani's a caretaker we hired for gran gran.
"Bye Granny." Drake waved.
We speed our way to Dad's car.
I rode in the front seat.
"How come you get too sit in front?" Drake whinned.
"Because I'm older." I said.
Drake pouted.
"Don't worry son. When we arrive at California you'll get to sit upfront on the roller coaster." Dad said.
"Yeahy!" Drake cheered.
Dad smiled. "So how's life?"
"The ussual. Drake annoying Jake." I said.
"Hey. I do not annoy Jake." Drake whinned.
"Yes you do." Jake said while reading a book.
Drake crossed his arms and pouted.
"What about you Michelle?" Dad asked.
"It's Mitch." she plugged her earphones. "And I'm fine." she closed her eyes and doze off.
I sighed. "Don't worry dad. You're not the only one getting a cold treatment from her."
Dad sighed sadly. "I just wish I could make things better for you guys."
"Hey. You're trying, aren't you?"
He smiled. "Thank you for being a good daughter and sister to your siblings."
I just smiled then look out the window. I just hope this vacation is worth leaving Gran-gran alone.
