A little girl was alone in her room, her nanny still working in the living room below. She turned off the lights and crawled into bed.

She looked up in awe, soft light reflected off her skin. In her hands, a paper that had been punctured by star-shaped cuts was taped to a torchlight. The unblocked streams of light created a small universe above her on the duvet that she had thrown over herself.

Suddenly, her little universe was gone as the duvet was removed from above her, ruining the hideout she made for herself.

"Papa?"

"Sweetheart, it's past bedtime already. It's time to sleep now."

"Okay, Papa."

"Goodnight, sweetheart. Papa loves you."

"I love you too, Papa."

The door closed, leaving a sleeping girl who dreamt of a universe of her own.

A girl, now in her teens, was alone in the room, enjoying the temporary escape from the gathering downstairs. She turned off the lights and lied down on the floor.

She looked up and saw the stars that gave off a faint glow, the corner of her lips curved up a little. She remembered how Papa had arrived home with a bag saying that it contained something magical. She remembered how Papa held her up as she placed the plastic star on the ceiling. She remembered-

The door opened.

"Mama."

"Lissa, what are you doing here? Come down and greet the guests."

"Yes, Mama."

"And hurry up."

"Yes, Mama."

The door closed, leaving behind bittersweet memories and the life of a girl who once dreamed.

A girl, now in her early twenties, opened the door to her dorm, her hair a mess from the strong wind outside the building. She turned on the lights and jumped onto her bed.

She looked up, observing the cracks in the ceiling through squinted eyes. Millions of thoughts ran through her head, but at the same time, there was nothing. She had been overworking herself and she knew it, her tired mind knew it. She was beginning to lose hope in her plans for her future. Her weary eyes wandered around the room as tears gathered and fell; her bags, her notes, her assignment files, paper strewn across the floor, her books, her novels, her balcony-

"Hmm."

She got off the bed and went out onto the balcony, leaning against the pillar to avoid getting whipped by the freezing wind.

"Wow."

Countless stars could be seen behind thin clouds in the night sky, giving a spectacle for all of its audience. The Moon not losing to the stars as it peeked out from behind the large cloud concealing it before, its surface brilliantly reflecting the light from the Sun as it gave off a pale glow to the clouds surrounding it.

The girl looked up in awe, soft light reflecting off her skin. The tears on her cheeks had dried up and left barely noticeable tracks on her face. She slid down the pillar and sat with her legs crossed, admiring the stars as she did in her room in the past. She felt so small, so helpless looking at the scene before her that spanned across the never-ending sky. Her running thoughts came to a halt and the silence in her head was replaced by resolutions, plans..

Hope.

Her eyes closed as she smiled, nodding to herself, content with what she thought of.

As she continued to sit there and admire the beautiful scene created by clumps of rocks far away from where she was, she had realised her insignificance in this world.

Yet, at the same time, it made her feel unlimited.
