.::Chapter 1::.
My sister, Mia, grabbed my hand and lead me through the forest. I don't even know how long we've been running. “I need to rest," I yelled to her. “No," she said bluntly. i let out. grunt and tried to keep up. It's been a few months since everything went down. Hard to believe but we are in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. After a month or so our parents died protecting us. My little sister has been a little harder on me because of it all. I'm 10 years old so she's been teaching me how to shoot my bow. I've had it for a while and I'm great with it, but she doesn't want me to rust.
As we were running I tripped on a root of a tree. “Get up we need safety," she yelled. I must have rolled my ankle because it hurt pretty bad to walk. She made a loud grunt and walked away then back to me again, “Fine we'll make camp." I looked at her with disbelief, “You're the one pushing so hard. Besides it's nightfall we should," she rolled her eyes and started putting up the tent. I grabbed little sticks put them together with some rocks circling it. I stood up lit a match and dropped it in the sticks. It took a minute but it lit.
I grabbed some good looking sticks and took out my knife and carved them so I can make some good arrows for my bow. Mia laced some cans with rope and hung the around the trees about six feet away from camp so we know when walkers are here. She finally sat down and rummaged through our bag and looked like she calmed herself a bit. “You hungry," she asked me but not looking at me. “No, I'm not hungry," I told her continuing to make my arrows.
She nodded in response and grabbed a small can soup. She took the can opener and popped it open. She then propped it up near the fire so it could heat up a bit. “I'm sorry," she told me finally breaking the silence. I didn't answer I just kept on with my arrows. “I shouldn't have pushed you to keep going. I just wanted to get you somewhere safe not out here in this forest. I just want to protect you and-," I cut her off, “I know. It's okay." I smiled at her, finished my arrows, and went to my tent to sleep.
*********** ** ***********
I woke up in my sleeping bag. I looked over and found my sister still asleep. I stared back at the roof of my tent. I heard a noise outside of my tent along with the cans rattling. I took my bow and slipped on my leather jacket that have the sleeves ripped off. I slowly unzipped my door flap and peeked outside. A walker was tangled in the rope. I shot the Walker in the head so it wouldn't make anymore noise. I slowly came towards it and yanked my arrow out of it's head.
My sister slowly came out of the tent with her gun. Yeah, she had a gun and I had a bow. I could've had a gun but I wanted my bow. She walked over to me with her gun at the ready, “you okay?" I brought my hand up and lowered her gun, “Yeah, just one walker. Let's pack up camp and get going." I walked back to my tent and grabbed my black work boots. I wore a white tank top, black sleeveless leather jacket, light skinny jeans, and black work boots.
While Mia took he cans off trees I took down the tent and put it up. I gathered my arrows and waited by the fire as she cleaned gun. I stared at the fire entranced by the dancing flames. I've had to act mature for my age for the sake of my sister. It was only her and I and that's all we had. I just wish it was back to the way it was before. My sister wasn't so edgy and she was happy. Now, sh looks so unhappy and tired and always acts so serious. I have to try so hard to lighten up the mood. It's rare when I can crack her but it only lasts so long.
“You know I love you, right," she asked pulling me out of my trance. I guess she was done fiddling with her gun because now she stood behind me to. I got up and nodded a I started to walk away but she grabbed my shoulders and stopped me. “I love you," she said spinning me around. I gave her a hug and she hugged me back but tighter. “I know," I said burring my face in her hair. She let go nodded her head in the direction we needed to go in; telling me let's go. I got up and gathered my stuff and we left again.
I knew she loved me. I know it must be hard at this point but I know she does. I grabbed her hand and she miss stepped and looked at me. I smiled when she squeezed mine tighter. I knew I could be safe. I knew with her. She's my amazing 18 year old sister.
