Austin

Oh, sh**. May's going to cut her hair. I don't exactly know why I care, but I don't want May to cut her hair and I have to stop her.

"Hold on, let me really find out where May's going." I tell Karleen. Then I run to the driveway and find May opening the door to enter. "May,"

She turns around and when she sees me, anger is clearly written on her face. "Don't talk to me." She says which felt like someone shot an arrow at my heart.

"May, I wasn't really going to punch you. I missed on purpose, it was just Karleen was pressuring me so much and I had to make it look like I punched you." I say quickly.

"Shut up." May says in disbelief.

I take a deep breath in and let it out as May sits in the car. "I just don't want you to think that I hit girls, I know better than to hurt girls."

May starts the ignition and then looks up at me. "For a girl, it's emotion that hurts more than physical."

I laugh. "Oh, come on-" But she starts backing. "Don't cut your hair, May! You look prettier with your hair long!"

May

Tears were running down my eyes. Why does Austin taunt me like this? Why is he causing me so much pain in the heart. Even when he slightly means to tell me that he thinks I'm attractive, why is he such a pain? Does he know how much it hurts me inside? Does Austin know that I'm alone and I have no one anymore since Mother died? He knows my mother died, only he, so why does he torture me with his words and appearance?

I put on the radio and listen to the classical music station. I really admire classical music and it helps me sober up. Then, someone starts calling me. Forgetting to check the ID because I was turning right, I answer the phone.

"Hello?" I say.

"Are you going to cut your hair?" Austin asks.

"You don't know what you're saying Austin. Just stop it. Stop."

"What are you ta-"

"I'm not cutting my hair!" I yell into the phone and hang up.

I park onto Laura's driveway and knock on the door. Laura's mother opens the door.

"Oh, May! You're back from India already?" She says.

"Yes. How was your Christmas vacation?"

"It went well with all of my brothers from Italy." She says. "Let me check on Laura, just come in, dear."

I sit on the over-stuffed red chair I love about Laura's house and sit. After a few minutes, Laura's mother comes back downstairs, her wide smile was gone.

"Um, I'm afraid she's not at home at the moment. But don't worry, dear. You'll meet her tomorrow at school, right?" She says ushering me to the door.

"Um, okay." I say. This is weird. "Bye."

"Good-bye." And she shuts the door on my face.

Laura

I put my ear against the carpet and hear mom say good-bye then the door close. A few seconds later, my mom comes bursting through my door.

''Young lady, I will not tolerate to tell another lie to such a sweet, pretty girl! This is the last time ever! And why did you want me to lie to her? Because you have fun lying? Of course you do, for you, lying is living." And she rants on with her lecture.

May

Well that was weird. I wonder where Laura might have gone. I wanted to clear my mind and the only thing that was coming to mind was a hair cut, but for some reason, I just drove straight back home. I parked onto my driveway and pulled my hair into a loose, messy bun and went inside. Karleen and Austin were still watching Black Swan. When Austin hear the door close, he instantly came running to me.
