the pencils are my only friends in this class. I guess me and the notebooks get along but I care more for the sharp point and smooth writing of the pencils.

sitting in history was the best time to put my friends to use, just sitting there hearing my teacher's old voice again and again is the sweet time to draw whatever is on my mind.

this day I decided to draw a burning tree, my emotions were complicated and my anger grew since yesterday so I let my emotions drag through the wooden tool in my hand, making each dead leaf more detailed and noticeable. I made sure to carry my mind onto the paper showing the nasty flames consuming the happy perfect picture of a tree.

the sound of a ruler sharply swatting against my paper echoes in the room. I jump a small bit and wince at the noise.

"Mr. Knight, care to explain whats so much more important on that paper than the words coming out of my mouth?" I shyly glance into his glassy green eyes before looking down and hiding behind my blue hair.

"n-nothing....s-s-sir" i manage out slowly. I move a lock of my hair to see him limp back to the front of the room and sigh his normal un-approving sound.

I pull my sleeves down to make my sweater paws and cover the tree with my forearm. then continue despite the protests from my teacher, to scrape the lead on the soft cream colored paper of my old messed up sketch pad. this motion of my hand goes on till I hear the ring of the bell crash through the classroom.

I shoot my head up as every student is trying to rush out of the doorframe in time to see all of their friends that had different classes. I take a different approach and slowly put my notebooks away because if I go too fast I will get caught up in the crowd and most likely get trampled by every student out there.

I clutch my ratted sketchpad to my chest as I swing my bag over my shoulder and shuffle my feet out of the door reluctantly turning right to the courtyard where I would meet up with my best friend Otto and maybe his girlfriend Aurora.

only passing a few random kids I make it to the door outside. pushing it with my side I feel the fall air hit my young face and I feel relaxed more.

there are about 40 students out here each wrapped up in conversation. school started about 3 weeks ago and everyone around is still confused about classes, lockers and countless other things. I'm not that dumb I have been here for 2 years I know this place like I know my home. otto and I used to sneak out of class and just visit every classroom that we could find in the amount of time we had till class ended.

speaking of Otto I see his signature curls and beanie sitting against a wall in the back that is our spot. we are always sitting there because no one else wants to. they all want the fancy chairs and tables up front personally, i actually like sitting in the soft grass with all the beautiful flowers and don't get me started on the amazing shade we get from the cherry tree. shame they get to miss out on it.

"Hey.." I almost whisper to Otto as I walk up to him. as usual, he is stuffing his face with school cookies while he taps on his thighs with his drumsticks. with his earbuds in, I know for a fact he can't hear me or see me because he is headbanging along messing up his hair and swinging it into his eyes so instead of waiting for the song to be over I decide to kick him right in the knee.

his reaction is priceless, his face is full of pain as he lunges for his knee almost screaming like a child saying over and over "ouch that hurt!". im practically rolling on the ground with my stuff all fallen on the ground when he throws a part of his lunch at me telling me it wasn't funny and me just responding with a harder laugh.

when I'm finally done with my little outburst I sit up and shake off the small pieces of cut grass on my sweater. I look at Otto who is still holding his knee and giving me a look of anger, playful anger but anger.

"wheres aurora right now isn't she usually with you?"

"yeah, but she went off with Anna to go out and get lunch. its Tuesday remember they do that"

oh yeah, the girls go out and buy lunch on these days for some reason. I guess its some sort of deal or something they made a while ago I'm not really sure.

"oh well then, I guess its just us..." I smile at Otto and sit down sliding my bag over and putting my art book on top of it so I can sit comfortably on the ground. Otto and I make small talk as the lunch hour goes on and for the rest of my classes, it's like a normal day: work, bored, art, work art, art, art.

I wait for Otto outside of the office like normal. I start to fidget with my thumbs and the metal spiral in my math notebook its about 2:30 and Otto should have been here by now because school got out ten minutes ago. i start to get annoyed with my older friend and i decide its best if i start walking home by myself because i dont feel like waiting another few minutes for him to show up.

i start walking to the doors when im thrown off  by stepping straight into a guys chest. all of m pencils scatter on the floor by me and the mysterious mans feet.

"i-i-i-im sor-r-ry" i slowly stutter out to him and all he does is smile and bend down to pick them up.

"no its my fault i was looking at my phone" he motions to a lit phone on the ground about 7 feet away from us just about under the fake plant the teachers insist are real .

"here.. i think thats all of them" he smiles like a proud child and hands me all of my pencils. i take them and stuff into my bag then look back at him and straight into his eyes.

oh his eyes they were the prettiest shade of blue i have ever seen.

i try to mutter out a thank you but im so lost in the sea of grace that all i can manage to say is

"than...."
