Getting home my father had to carry me up the steps like a child to my room. "Do you want me to stay?" He asked sounding worried.

I tried to give him a smile because I didn't want to make him miserable just because I was. "No dad. I'm good. I'll call you if I need you."

The empty space in the center of my room drew my attention. I wished I never took the piano. Then I would have it to look at. Devon still haunted my thoughts and lately even my dreams. He seemed to be always there no matter how hard I tried to forget him.

I heard the doorbell echoing through the house and figured it was Sasha or Katie. I wasn't in the mood for visitors. Then as expected I heard my father's footsteps. He knocked and opened the door peeking in to see me sitting on my bed. "Uh....honey you have a visitor. He says you know him. His name is Devon Bane."

I nodded numbly. "Sure. Devon yeah I know him." I was instantly confused. My dad looked nervous. "Dad it's ok. Let him up."

My father disappeared and after only a moment the door opened wide and in he came wearing a leather jacket and tight blue jeans. Of course so did my dad. I gave him a look. "It's ok dad you can go." He narrowed his eyes at Devon's back pressing his lips together. "Dad." I hissed and he finally left giving me a look of 'call me if you need me' right before closing the door.

Once the door was shut I turned my attention to the vampire standing looking out of the window. "I never thought I'd see you again. What's wrong haven't had enough time playing with the human?" I asked with as much venom as I could.

"I'm sorry." He turned to look at me. "I just..." His golden eyes searched around the room like he was looking for a way to explain. He came and sat down on the edge of the bed. Surprising me. "I didn't realize how hard it would be that's all."

I laughed. "Yeah well, it's been hard for me too." I hit my leg hard and wasn't surprised when I didn't feel it. "I just wish everything on me was as numb as my legs."

His brows crunched together a he looked from my blanket covered legs to my face. I could see he didn't know. Then he looked away. "I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault. Oh and thank you by the way. You saved me yet again. Was there something you wanted from me?" I wanted to keep it business. I didn't want to believe that we might become friends because he would just leave again.

"Is that why you think I saved you?"

I shrugged. "I'm not sure why you do anything. I thought we were getting along and helping each other and you take off. I was trying to forget you and you come back, jumping through flames to save me. Then you tell me to stay away from you. I'm trying to figure out what game you're playing, because I'm lost."

"I'm not playing a game." His voice was a whisper. "I just...I didn't expect this." He stood up and went to where the piano was. "I didn't expect to feel....this way. I had to get away from you. But not knowing if you were alright or safe.....I couldn't stand it. Then when I came back I..."

"I don't understand Devon. If you care so much why did you go?"

"For just that reason." He turned back facing me, his expression the same as when he pulled me from the fire. "It's too dangerous for you to be near me."

"I trust you." I said the words and realized how much I really did trust him. After everything I knew he would never hurt me.

"How can you say that? You know what I am. I'm.....a killer."

Not thinking I turned swinging my legs off the corner of my bed. Fixing him in my gaze I put a small amount of weight on them and winced feeling a twinge of pain in my back. I tried to stand but the strength wasn't there. I closed my eyes expecting to feel the floor smash my face. But it didn't. Devon was there and caught me. His face so close to mine, this time I was thinking of kissing him. "I trust you." I said again. He shook his head and bent down lifting my legs so he could cradle me in his arms.
