"Joker, why are we heading down to Mementos today? There are no targets to change," Morgana questioned the leader, as the underground subway at Shibuya transformed.
"We should hurry here, it's flu season and I think I'm coming down with it," Queen noted.
"Hey, do you think the flu affects shadows here? Mona said certain weather makes them go crazy," Oracle pondered out loud.
"This is my first visit to Mementos, if you have not forgotten, maybe Joker wanted me to see it for myself," Crow chuckled. The teens all inwardly groaned. Right, they had been blackmailed by the ace detective, Akechi Goro, and he was now a part of their group, the Phantom Thieves.
"Oh right, you're here...," Skull mumbled. He wasn't the biggest fan of Crow and liked to show it, especially during battle.
"Hey, Joker, are we going to get moving or-" Panther started, only to see said boy staring into the distance in the corner of Mementos' entrance.
He seemed to do this occasionally, staring into nowhere, hunched back, and hands in his pockets. Whenever he snapped out of the trance, he'd come back with stronger Personas that no one had seen before. That and some of the other ones who captured woukd mysteriously vanish. Nobody bothered to ask about what he did in those idle moments, simply believing it was another part of his powers.
"While Joker is out of it, maybe we should strategize how we will go about with our trip down here," Fox suggested, and everyone agreed.
"Right, we haven't explored all of the Path of Adyeshach. At the moment, we are on the 9th floor with a safe room," Makoto mentioned. In Mementos, the group tended to continue heading down all the way to the bottom of one path. However, due to the incident with Okumura and the need to not be suspicious, the group were unable to clear the newly opened floors.
"Yeah, I'm sure that after a few more floors, we will reach the end," Oracle promised, "I was able to get a hazy reading during our time at the safe room there."
Before anything else could be said, Joker had escaped his trance and began to walk up to his group. He gave them a simple nod, which signified that they were about to roll it.
"Crow, Noir, Panther, with me," Joker said. Always straight to the point, his teammates simultaneously thought.
Mona transformed into his iconic bus form and Joker took the wheel. The group went down to the entrance of the Path of Chemdah. Everyone had been confused. Why were they stopping on a higher level, with weaker shadows?
"I told you guys to bring things to entertain you, correct?" Joker asked, glancing back to everyone. They all brought out something that would entertain them, such as Fox with his sketchbook and Queen with a notebook.
"We will be here for a while," the boy in charge sighed. This alerted the team.
"What do you mean 'a while?'" Mona began, his voice laced with concern, "Don't you remember what I said when we first entered Mementos? There's an extremely powerful shadow that appears if we stay idle! We won't be able to defeat him, Joker."
"I know that," Joker snapped back, "And yes, I'm counting on this all powerful shadow to appear. Just watch." He leaned back in his seat, placing his hands behind his head.
"Are you sure this is a good idea, Joker? Do you think we can go up against a shadow that even the prideful Mona is afraid of?" Oracle questioned, squinting at the black haired boy.
"Just trust me," he waved back at her.
The group began to feel unease grow in their stomachs. The ominous wind that echoed throughout floors seemed louder. Distant, weaker shadows could be heard, shuffling about. Even though they all tried to remain calm, the sense of dread could not be shaken off.
Then it began.
A rattling of chains could be heard.
"Hm, this feeling... Joker, proceed with caution," Mona warned.
"What is this power," Oracle finally piped up, "It's so strong... I can't put a number on it!" At this, everyone within the Mona bus was alert. If their Navigator, someone who constantly insulted shadows for being weak, was saying this new one was strong...
"Dude, we should get outta here!" Skull suddenly cried, "I'm not ready to be turned into high quality beef!"
"I, for once, agree with Skull. We should not be lingering around here with this powerful presence lurking," Mona added.
"Why are we waiting for this powerful shadow anyway?" Noir asked. She looked towards Joker, who had moved out of his relaxed position.
"Just trust me, OK," was all he said.
The rattling became louder. A powerful aura began to surround the Phantom Thieves. Queen looked out the square window in the rear. She gasped, almost as though she had the air knocked out of her lungs.
"Y-y-you guys, l-look," Queen uncharacteristically stuttered and her face expressed her fear. Everyone present in the bus followed her gaze to the back of the bus, only to share Queen's fear. An ominous and foreboding shadow was slowly floating toward them.
It was hooded. Its 'clothes' were tattered. What could be called its arms were replaced by a pistol's barrel. Chains wrapped around and hanged off of it. A red aura seemed to be emitting from it.
The next few moments were a flurry of action.
"Crow!" Panther cried to their blackmailer, who had seen seated next to Joker in the front seat, "TURN MONA NOW!"
Crow, frozen by the shock of seeing an imposing shadow, took a whole to register Panther's request. However, by the time he could perform said task, his face was met with Joker's boots, pushing him to the other side of the car.
"This is quite unexpected," Crow said, faking a smile at Joker.
Fox, on the other hand, said nothing and instead acted. He lunged past Joker in an attempt to steer the car away. He did successfully reach the steering wheel, but only realized his mistake.
"Don't you need gas to get a car moving?" Joker flashed his artistic teammate a devious grin. He grabbed Fox's wrist, keeping him pinned to the wheel, and using him as a way to block off the rest of the teens.
Skull attempted to pull Fox out of Joker's grasp, but to no avail. If he pulled any harder, he could injure his teammate. Oracle began to shrink into a corner, crying out that Joker was trying to kill them all. Noir tried to console her. Panther was shaking, alongside Queen, staring out the window.
The shadow had approached and shrouded the window. All actions ceased.
Then, a large crash forced Morgana out of his bus form. Everyone inside was thrown out, skidding across the tracks of Mementos.
