Prologue

They say everyone is different, but what happens when what once was different becomes the new normal.

It all started in the year 3018, when a group of scientists were doing research on a chemical gas that could give people powers. Yeah, I know that sounds like the start of a cheesy superhero movie or something. Also, yeah, I know what a superhero is because I got an A+ in history and know these things.

Well back to the scientists. They tested this chemical gas on animals and every test came back positive. All the animals had powers. They couldn't control these powers but it worked. The scientists killed all the animals. Well, because we cant have mutated animals running around, now can we? They only kept two animals alive for further examination. These two animals died within two weeks due to their bodies rejecting the chemical inside them. Upon seeing this the scientists decided to stop researching and testing the chemical gas.

Now, these scientists were smart most of the time, but weren't very smart when they decided to give the chemical gas container to the intern. They told him to get rid of it. Being the naive high school student he was, he went outside to throw it in the garbage. He threw the container and when it hit the bottom, the glass broke releasing the gas which the intern then inhaled. Not thinking much of it, he went on with his life.

The intern never showed any signs of having powers. It wasn't until he was older and had a child that his 5 year old daughter had signs of having powers. She had the power to move objects with her mind, otherwise known as telekinesis. She became the first person with powers. The funny thing is that she hadn't died I two weeks like the scientists thought. She lived her life concealing her powers

It wasn't till 100 years later that more and more Alium, as they were called back then, started showing themselves. Well, knowing how people throughout history react to anyone that was different than them, It didn't go well.

The government tried to use the army to eliminate the Alium. The war lasted 4 years but the government was no match for the Alium. The war ended and the Alium took over. They changed their names to Prodigium since Alium was a derogatory term. The Prodigium were now in charge. They let people without powers live and called them Nons.

200 years later and almost no Nons exist. There where only a few hundred. Based on genetics there was only a 1% chance that you would have a Non baby. All of the Nuntium consisted of headlines with parents saying how surprised they were when they had a Non baby.

Today the year is 4018, 1,000 years since the chemical gas was created. The chance of getting a Non baby is down to 0.5%. Prodigium are now living happily with no need to worry about anything.
