Ok, listen carefully. Because we only have a few more hours before the candy people attack our world. You are probably wondering who the candy people are, and why they are attacking us. Well, first of all, I am Emma, and I work at a place that solves unnatural problems, but you can call us the R.A.A. The problems might be weird, but they are usually really dangerous. Have you ever felt a shake? Well, it was probably an earthquake. But one of the times it was a meteorite spaceship full of crazy screaming aliens. But we stopped it. And don't ask how.
Anyways, I will start at the beginning.
It was a normal day at work. We just finished lunch and were lining up to be assigned to missions. I got assigned to go to the desert and that I would find my answer there. I had no idea what they were talking about because I didn't ask any questions, but I went there anyway. Because if I asked questions I would just get a vague answer like "You will find out soon enough". So I just didn't ask questions. So, since the desert wasn't too far away, I decided to walk there. While I was walking I thought about all the questions I hadn't asked today. Then I remembered I had asked one question.I had asked what lunch was. But I don't think I would find my answer there. (I had already found my answer at lunch).
Anyways, as I was walking I saw an old man hobbling across the desert in robes. So I went over to see who he was and why he was here.
But when I went over to talk to him he said, "The portal is over there-he pointed to a floating circle-."And I am Agaram, I live in a cave south of the desert."
"Ok, thanks," I said. At first, I backed away slowly, then started running. When I reached the portal, I poked my head in, then I stepped inside. The second my whole body was in the portal, it closed behind me. I looked around, and I gasped. It was like a winter wonderland! There were gingerbread houses everywhere, and snow glistened in the morning sun on their rooftops. Rows of gingerbread houses lined the street, each unique in its own way. There were some woods past a couple houses to my right and a waterfall to my left. There were gingerbread people dancing and playing in the snow. I was standing near a gingerbread house, and it had gumdrops and peppermints as decorations. As a group of gingerbread kids passed by, I flattened myself into the side of the house. I plucked off a phone-sized jelly bean and munched on it happily. I may have just eaten lunch, but that didn't mean I couldn't eat dessert!
I was about to move from my hiding spot when I heard trumpets blare, and a man's voice speak." I am here to announce that we are going to have a meeting about the humans," he said humans like some pesky bug that was bothering him. There were some grumbles in the crowd, and soon everyone was talking to each other.
"Everyone QUIET!" he shouted, but no one stopped talking. Then he did some weird thing where he clapped his hands, then kept his two pointer fingers touching, and his thumbs touching, but the rest of his fingers separated and went next to his pointer fingers. His pointer fingers and thumbs made a triangle, and then he moved his hands up in the same position, with his palms facing the crowd, and pushed forward.
A ripple went through the crowd, and everyone instantly stopped talking. They all looked at him.
I was in a position where I couldn't see him, so I peeked at him, and immediately regretted it. The gingerbread man had dark blue frosting covering his leg portion, and black frosting covering his upper body. He had dark blue gumdrops on his torso where buttons would be, and a stern look on his face. His gaze met mine, and I turned away, wishing I were part of the wall.
I heard his footsteps, he had white jelly beans as shoes, and they made a clanking noise on the snow-covered floor. One of the guys standing near him, probably his personal assistant, had a scroll in his hand labeled Humans. I had to get that scroll. His footsteps drew closer, and I suddenly had an idea. It was risky, but I had to take risks. I mean that was what got me to be on such a dangerous mission after all. Not letting me have any more second thoughts, I put my plan into action. Right as the man turned the corner, I jumped through the open window I had seen earlier. I crawled under the first table I saw, as I heard a soft female voice carry throughout the small house. " Honey, dinner's ready. Come downstairs," I heard a muffled," Yes," come from upstairs, and footsteps coming downstairs.
Oh no.
I needed to get to the front door, grab the scroll, and run. The people would surely chase me, and I would have to find a good hiding place, but first I had to get out of this house...
I saw two sets of legs come to the table, and then get on the chairs. I needed to create a distraction to make these people look away and something to keep that man outside, at the window. So without really thinking, I took of my very much cherished, chestnut colored UGG off my foot, and chucked it out the window when the man wasn't looking. Luckily, the two people in the house didn't notice. The guy outside eyed the UGG suspiciously and looked for something to pick it up with. I took my chance and chucked my second UGG out the window when he was looking in the direction of the house. I then hid, pulled the tablecover back down, and stayed silent.
The guy outside poked his head through the window and spotted the two gingerbread people. " Katar, Rayma, are these yours?" He held up the two UGGs with his pointer finger and thumb as if they were contaminated- which to him, they probably were.
" I don't know, we'll come outside and look," A gruff voice said, and then I heard the scraping of chairs against wood, and the creak of the front door opening and closing. I waited a few seconds, before slowly climbing out from under the table. I stretched my arms and legs, then got onto my knees and crawled to one of the windows at the front of the house. I was below the window, so I couldn't be seen, but I couldn't see either. So I got up on my knees and peeked out the window. The crowd was still there, and the guy with the scroll would every few seconds set the scroll down, walk a few steps, then pick it up again. I raised an eyebrow at this.
I tiptoed to the front door, and slowly opened it. There was a long porch, with lots and lots of plants. Some the size of me. There was a driveway, but they had a yard. But they turned it into a garden. There were all colors, shapes, and sizes of plants covering their yard. I hid behind one of the bigger plants and then did a tumble on the ground to another one. This one was about 3 ft by 5 ft and about double the size of me. It was dark green and dark blue, and I couldn't see anything inside. I leaned a little closer when a bug came flying out of the plant. I jumped and knocked over one of the potted plants. It shattered into about a million pieces.
Since I didn't have shoes, I stepped away, into the open. Unluckily for me, everyone saw me. I looked for something to hide in and stepped into the green and blue grass. It wasn't in a pot, but the broken pot shards hadn't gotten into it. I went to the middle and waited. I heard footsteps, and people talking. I took some of the grass like thing and tried to break it off. It was kind of hard. I thought for a second, then put both of my hand on it, and broke one of the blades in half. I stomped on the broken half and stuck it on the top of my head. Then I scooped some of the dirt of the ground and smashed it on my head.
After doing a sideways tumble to the script on the ground, and picking it up, I sprinted towards the woods I had seen before.
As I ran, the scroll became slightly warm in my hand, like coming inside a building with heat after being outside during winter.
I ran a few yards into the woods, and by this time, the scroll felt like a mug fresh out of the microwave. I switched it from hand to hand while blowing on my hands.
The woods would have been dark and eerie if it had not been for the lights strung on every few trees. There were logs and a few ponds I spotted along the way to the center of the woods. The closer I got to the center, the darker it became, and soon it was almost pitch black, and silent.
I sat down to take a few minute break, when the scroll's heat intensified greatly, forcing me to drop it.
I tried to pick it up again, but it burned me. I blew on my hands, but it only reduced it a little. It still felt like I dipped my hands in fire.
I kicked the scroll over to the lake(that opened into the ocean) I had seen earlier and washed my hands in the cold water. I splashed my face and redid my hair.
I looked at the scroll and suddenly had an idea. I picked up the scroll and put it into the water. Maybe it would cool it down enough for me to hold it.
Then I looked at the scroll and saw the black words fading. I dived into the water, grabbing for the scroll, but it had already sunk too far, and out of my reach. So without any other choice, I came up to the surface, took a deep breath, and followed the scroll into the dark depths of the ocean.
A/N: Hey guys! Thanks for reading this book, I wrote it when I was younger and made some changes recently. I will update soon, and constructive criticism is welcome!
