"It was a dark and stormy night..." my mother said starting a scary story to tell me.

"Jana! Get down here!" my father yelled from downstairs to my mother. My mother set down the book of Nightmares and told me to go brush my teeth. I obey her and head to the bathroom that is frog themed.

I put toothpaste on my toothbrush then wash water over it. I turn the sink off and hear my parents downstairs yelling. I was as curious a cat, so I set my toothbrush down and timidly walk out of my room and to the top of the stairs, where I see my father with an empty bottle in hand and a mad face. He was yelling at my mother.

"She's only a kid! What do you want from her?!" my mother yells at my father. I don't know what compelled me to speak, but I said

"M-mom? D-dad? Why are you arguing?" my voice trembled. My mom turned to me and her face softened as she looked at my worried expression. My father stomped away angrily. Then my mother walked up the stairs and pulled me into a hug.

"You're going to Aunt Carol's for Spring Break," my mother started."Go pack your things up." Today was the first day of Spring Break. That meant I would be there for two weeks. I had never been to Aunt Carol's house, she has only ever visited. I was a little scared, but I listened and went to pack my things. I got my favorite pajamas that had bunnies all over them. The next morning my mother took me to the airport and sent me on the plane to Montana.

The stewardess on the plane was very kind and made sure I was okay. I slept most of the three-hour trip; there was not anything interesting about a bunch of clouds. When we landed, I was still asleep so the pilot had to wake me up. I stepped off the plane, and into the lobby waiting room.

The room was all but full. Then I realized, I was the only passenger actually on the plane. I saw my Aunt Carol walk through the door, and she drives me home, leaving my suspicions behind at the airport.

I stepped out of the car. Aunt Carol's house had a black shingled roof and purple wood walls. It was as if the house itself was killing everything around it. The floor was mossy instead of covered with grass, and the trees left alive made everything else except where the house stood dark. There was a gate nearly falling apart, and the door was rotting at the edges.

I was resistant about going inside but agreed because I couldn't really go home. As I walked into the house the already clouded sky appeared to grow darker. She brought me to a room upstairs. The room had its own fireplace, and the bed had a brown canopy. "Make yourself comfortable," she said, "I will go find something for dinner."

She leaves the room and closes the door. I sat my stuff next to the bed. I leaped onto the bed and laid on my back. I turn on my phone, yet there was no service. I sighed, and walked back downstairs, leaving all my stuff upstairs.

The floors were so old that every step a little bit of wood snapped off. Once I was downstairs, I walked into a huge room with a long dark wood table, covered with silver plates and forks. There was a huge crystal chandelier lighting up the room. There were multiple fireplaces and at the end of the table two bowls, still steaming, sat untouched.

My aunt steps in behind me then walks over to the opposite end of the table. She sits down then motions for me to come over "Eat up, we have chicken noodle soup," she said with a smile. I go and sit at the second bowl of soup then take a spoonful. I stare at it for a second then hesitantly eat it. It actually tasted really good. "This is really good, did you make it?" I asked taking another sip.

"No ma'am I didn't, my cook Sarah did My Dear," she said sipping her own soup. "She stays in the room next to yours."

A girl, who I presume to be Sarah, walked out of the kitchen. She had beautiful tan skin and dirty blonde hair. She had gorgeous blue eyes that sparkled in the chandelier light.

"Hello, you must be Lola. I've heard a lot about you," she said smiling. Her long dirty blonde hair had curled perfectly. After talking f0r a little while I stepped out of the room. I walked upstairs and went to bed after taking a shower.

One night a little after, about four days, I was laying on my canopy bed with the cloth draped down covering most of the outside of my bed, There were some gross looking brown curtains covering the window.

I was reading a book Sarah had mentioned to me, Stary Gazed Heart. It was a love story novel about a girl named Christen. I was really getting into the book when I hear a scratching from behind the wall. A shiver runs down my spine as I pull the covers over my chin. The room started to chill. I hit the wall and yell "stop messing with me Sarah!" but no answer. Usually, she would giggle from behind the wall, but it was just silence.

My fire flickered and then blew out. I took sharp breathes hiding under my blanket. I hear floorboards under my bed snap and splinter. My body shakes then I feel the heat in the room come back. I poke my head out. The room was normal as I scanned around. I began to calm when I look eye to eye of a horrifying monster. It looked like all of its major limbs had been ripped off and sewn back on. Its face was completely black with a white cut looking into a smile. It had no eyes yet I could feel it staring at me. Black hair like strings coming out of its head. The fire was providing light but its face was still black tinted. I sat there, paralyzed with fear. My eyes started to flow with tears. My arms shook with horror.

It brought up its deformed hands to its cut-open mouth and murmured "shhh, don't tell." It fell onto the floor and crawled to the side of the bed then right under. I didn't sleep the whole night.

The next morning I sprinted out of my room and down the hall to the kitchen where I saw Sarah cooking. "That wasn't cool what you did last night," I said angrily to her. She just looked at me puzzled. I explained what happened and she burst out laughing. I gave an annoyed huff. " That's crazy you were probably just dreaming," she said trying not to laugh. I stormed out of the kitchen and back to my room. I heard a whisper say "you told" then silence. I run to my bed and look under it. Everything was fine but I see three boards that had been snapped. My eyes watered with fear. It was real. The creature I saw was real.

I finally got service and dialed my best friend Carter. The phone rang and he finally answered after two rings. "Hey Lola, I thought you were dead," he said sarcastically. I told him about the monster and sent a picture of the wood under my bed. The picture came up black. "That's completely crazy Lola, you are delusional" he laughed.

After a while, we ended the call. I went to go talk to Sarah because I was bored. I walked into her room and froze. She was lying on the ground and her limbs were stitched backward with a smile cut on her face. Spelled on the wall, in her blood was "you told."

I screamed as my aunt ran up the stairs then screamed herself. She instantly booked a flight for me to go home. I flew back home traumatized. The thought of the monster kept flashing in my mind.

The second I got home I went over to Carter's house. I hugged him and cried. I tell him everything. He didn't believe me. I said she was dead. He gave me ice cream and told me I could stay over.

Soon I fell asleep along with Carter. I had nightmares all night. Then in the dead of the night, my eyes flash open. The room was cold and stiff. I could hear Carter snoring. It calms me to hear him being on the bed, made me less scared than to be on the floor. As soon as I started to close my eyes again I hear a scratch on the walls. I freeze when I hear that awful sound, the one that told me it was near. The sound that scared me more than death. A snap in the boards, that stopped my heart. I don't know how but I rolled over. My eyes closed trying to prepare myself. I peaked them open, there it was "you told,"

So when you hear a scratch in the walls and a snap in the floorboard remember... don't tell.
