Chapter One

30 1 1

The Hogwarts corridors had a hollow mood these days.

My friends believe it first started when the Carrows arrived and took over Hogwarts with a stubby fist.

I believe it started a long time ago.

The life of Hogwarts died with Cedric Diggory.

With him, the innocence that Hogwarts held so dearly was gone.

Instead, a cold, strict school was born.

Maybe it started when Harry Potter arrived and started all of this chaos.

Maybe it was when Tom Riddle arrived.

Before, the treachery was shielded, hidden from plain view.

But now it was so obvious.

You could easily feel the pain it now held.

Lots of the students were gone before Christmas, their parent's poor attempt at safety.

But I'm muggle-born.

My parents don't even know what Lumos means.

And that's how it is now.

Unknowing. Unsure. Hollow.

As I walked to what had last year been known as Defense Against the Dark Arts I seemed to step in pools of it.

Each one making my feet grow cold, giving my whole body a chill.

I arrived to see Brother Carrow with a sinister grin sitting behind what should be Remus Lupin's desk.

 And then I saw them.

The other students, lined up against the wall, a blank stare on their faces.

We all knew what was coming.

I remember the first time I was forced to perform the Unforgivable Curse on a student.

I remember his face, frozen in pain, blood dripping from his nose and tears falling from his face.

The image is still burned into my brain, haunting me as I sleep every night.

Now I close my eyes as they cry in pain.

"Alright sixth years," Carrow said, rising from his chair. "You know the drill. Line up. You too Creevey," he said, pushing Colin in front of a young first year girl.

Then I saw her for the first time.

The blonde haired Slytherin staring at me with hints of fear hidden in her eyes.

She knew what I had to do.

She knew I had no choice.

And yet, she gave me a trusting smile. As if she knew something about me that I myself didn't know.

But something in her eyes were fearless.

Something in her grin made me fear her and adore her at the same time.

Or perhaps it was those eyes.

Her green eyes that seemed to gleam and shine like emeralds.

And she was Slytherin. God knows what horrible thing she did to get here.

"GO!" Carrow shouted, interrupting my study of the girl before me.

I hesitated.

When the words escaped me and the spell left my wand, her bright green eyes grew wide with surprise. I didn't close my eyes this time.

"Want to know what I did?" she said with a sneer. "Or at least my name?" she said, hiding the pain she felt.

I stopped.

The world seemed to slow as she whispered so quietly I almost missed it. "Audrey."

It suited her.

Audrey smiled at me. Not the cold sneer she'd showed a moment before.

"What's your name?" she asked. "Ben," I replied, lowering my wand.

Her green eyes softened, a small smile growing on her face.

"Walters!" Carrow shouted at me, pointing his ugly finger in my face.

"Do you want to be in the line next?" "No," I exclaimed aggressively.

Immediately, I set another Cruciatus curse on Audrey, causing the smile to disappear.

This time she did not hide her pain at all. This time she let it overtake her.

Seeing her in pain caused my curse to waiver, giving Audrey brief relief from her torture.

"I-- I was help--helping," she said through the pain.

"What?" I said, releasing the curse momentarily.

"I was protecting that stupid Ravenclaw. Did you know that? She was running from the Carrows and I stepped in. And I never saw her again. Never a thank you. Nothing. Instead, I get torture," she said loudly.

"What did she look like?" I ask desperately. "What did she look like?"

"Blonde hair," she said.

The world stopped. Jane.

What had my little sister done?

"I saved your dumb sister's life," she said, her hateful sneer returning.

"How did you know she's my sister?" I asked.

"You have the same look about you.

As soon as you stepped in front of me I knew," she said, attempting to stand back up.

When she got to her feet, she looked me in the eye and threateningly whispered, "I saved your stupid sister's life and what do I get? I get her brother to torture me! And it helps I'm Slytherin doesn't it? You probably thought I killed someone to get in here? You Gryffindors think you're so noble. And yet here we are. You, torturing me with no reason. And me, the tortured being punished for doing what a Gryffindor never could. And you say you have honor." She spat.

The end of her sentence was a shout, causing heads to turn.

Her words sent chills down my spine, she was right. I had no reason.

"I'm sorry," I whispered quietly.

"Me too," she said, wiping the blood from her mouth.

And then she left.

Audrey picked up her things from the corner and left.

Carrow shouted after her, giving her hundreds of detentions as she left.

Audrey turned around once, flipping off Carrow and the other bewildered students in the room.

Hi.

I'm Anna and this is my first Wattpad so I don't really know what I'm doing. I hope you liked

it. Chapter 2 will probably be shorter because writer's block is a bitch. Anyway I really

hoped you somewhat enjoyed what you just read.

Until next time.
