The Hunt

A few days later, I was walking down the hall to the library wondering if I should tell anyone I saw Tom. I could tell Dumbledore... but i'm sure he probably knows something.

Suddenly a panicked voice echoed through the halls: "All students must report to their dormitories immediately. All teachers and staff report to the third floor hallway." I froze my mind whizzing at a hundred miles an hour. What is going on?!

So of course, being the danger-prone girl I am, I ran to the third floor. Candles lit the hall way dimly giving the whole hall an eerie atmosphere. I heard chattering voices down around the corner, which I expected but I did not expect Harry and Ron peering around the corner as well. My footsteps grew lighter and lighter the closer I got to Ron and Harry.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" I whispered while pointing the wand at myself. This was the newest spell I had perfected so I floated above Ron and Harry. I grasped onto the cold stone wall so I wouldn't drift any farther than necessary and then I too looked over the edge of the wall.

On the opposite wall, there was a message. Not just any message, but one written in blood. My breath caught in my throat as I read the bloody words.

Her skeleton will lie in the chamber forever

"Who did it take Professor?" asked one teacher I didn't know. With a grim expression on her face, Professor McGonagal replied,

"Miss Ginny Weasley." Fear grabbed my heart. Not Ginny! But yet, I felt like I almost expected it to happen, with her spending all of her days with a scary diary and with her getting paler and paler...

I spent the rest of last night thinking of how I could save Ginny. Why would the monster (i'm sorry I didn't mention the Basilisk! I noticed that I forgot something... anyway if you remember anything about the monster IT IS BAD *duh* and it can paralyze anyone who looks at it indirectly, and can kill anyone who looks right at its eyes... creepy right? It has already paralyzed multiple students.) take her?

Finally I thought of something. I can confront Harry about it! He probably knows more about all of this right now since he had the Journal.

Sure just go and talk to Harry. Nothing wrong can happen! My thoughts were to scattered to think of anything else so, even though it may not have been the best idea, I ran to find Harry.

And then I realized it was about 11:30 at night.

"I would have to tell him in the morning." I thought. But my restless mind would not allow me to sleep. I finally gave in and walked to the owlery. I opened the small wooden door into the tower and my eyes widened.

In front of me shelves and branches were filled with sleeping owls and a large open window leading out into the dark cold night. I walked quietly among the sleeping owls, searching for Snitch. When I did find him I smiled happily. Snitch was sitting alert while Harry's female owl, Hedwig, was burrowed into his shoulder sleeping peacefully.

Awww! Hedwig and Snitch are in love. I thought. I walked up to Snitch and stroked him gently. "Hey boy. Looks like someone like you." He pecked me affectionally. I took that as a yes. "Take a walk with me?" I asked. He looked at Hedwig quickly and then slowly, as to not wake her up, moved onto my shoulder.

I walked out of the owlery and cast the spell Lumos onto my wand. Me and Snitch walked silently down the halls with my wand pointed down so the paintings wouldn't yell at me. Suddenly Snitch started to breathe quickly and grabbed my collar by his beak and tried to pull me backward. "What is it?" I asked. He flapped his wings frantically trying to get me to move. I gave in and stared running where ever he wanted me to go. "Snitch what is it?" I whispered. Then I heard it.

The cold sliding of scales.

My breathing started to quicken and my heart thumped wildly in fear. The monster is after me! My feet ran as fast as they could following Snitch. Where was he taking me? We turned a corner and ran down an empty hallway. My only thoughts were:

Please let me escape. Please let me escape! Then suddenly, as if it was a gift from above, a large metal door opened in the wall. Me and Snitch immediately ran inside and I shut the door and locked it tightly. My chest rose and fell heavily as I took in large gulps of air. A small tear escaped the corner of my eye. It was a snake! That was the only explanation! The hissing, the scales...

Then I took in where I was.
