An odd sent hit me as I slowly swam back to conciousness. I knew that smell from somewhere... was it some kind of chemical? Had someone drugged me?
I tried to stand but found that my hands were tied to a flaking wooden pole by some old but surprisingly strong rope. I tugged at it furiously but it wouldn't budge. I was hopelessly disoriantated and couldn't see an inch infront of my nose, no matter how hard I strained; the more I did, the darker it became. I had to calm down.
Suddenly a noise from somewhere in the room caught my attention, it sounded like footsteps. From the sound of it, the footsteps weren't particually heavy, a young woman perhaps. I heared a drawer open and the sounds of someone rumaging aroung in it, pushing things out of the way hurridly as if my captor was in some-kind of rush.
"Aha" a high pitched voice whispered triumphuntly. Definately a woman.
The sound of metal scraping against wood recerberated around the room. The footsteps travelled a way from me and suddenly a light flickered on, bathing the room in a dull glow. It came from a single bulb hanging from the ceiling, but at last I saw my captor. A young woman. Brown hair hanging down to her shoulders and peircing blue eyes, very pretty. I also saw what she was holding in her hand, what she'd pulled out of that drawer.
A knife.
I tugged desperately at my restaints, fearing or my life. The young woman shook her head sadly and took a step towards me, a miniature smile painted on her face, almost as if I was an inured animal she was going toput out of it's misery, almost as if she felt sorry for me.
Before I knew it, she was sitting down infront of me, cross-legged staring at me with the curiosity of a child looking at a strange new species of insect. That pitying smile was still painted on her lips. She lent forward and gently placed a hand over my mouth. A huge wave of panic washed over me.
I felt an excruciating pain in my lower abdomen. I looked down and saw a gaping wound in my stomach. And the young womans hand pulling the knife out of it. Blood flowed freely from the wound, painting the young womans hands red. I wanted to scream but the woman's hand was still planted, more firmly now, over my mouth. Black spots apeared as the pain decreased to a dull ache. I was drifting, slowly, slowly, the pain lessening by the second. From what seemd like miles away, a voice whispered "hush now, go to sleep," as my eyelids drooped and my world turned to black.
