Chapter 12

"I know," I smiled, responding to her words. But honestly, I wasn't worried about her family. I just couldn't seem to focus while Brandi was opening her baby's gifts because somehow, Chris managed to snake his arm around my waist. I shrugged him off of me, feeling uncomfortable.

"What's wrong? I can't publicly display affection?" He asked me.

"Not here."

"Why not here?"

"Because it's inappropriate and rude. You should be over there with Brandi, opening gifts, saying thank you, holding up items, taking pictures, and smiling."

"I suppose you're right. I apologize."

"Don't apologize to me, just get over there and BE a proud father."

Chris smiled at me and took position behind Brandi. I ignored all the wild stares I was receiving from Brandi's cousins and some of her friends.

When the baby shower came to an end Brandi was barely able to stay awake.

"Just drive her home and I finish up here. Then just come pick me up."

"Nah. I'm not feeling that."

"Why not."

"Ol Boy."

I simply rolled my eyes, "you don't trust me?"

"It's not you that I don't trust. It's him."

"Oh god."

Then Dionne walked in.

"Good, Dionne, watch her," Chris demanded

"Watch her?" Dionne scrunched her face up, "I just came to get my plate."

"Please Dionne," he pleaded.

"For what?"

"Because, that dude she went out on a date with owns this place and I have to get Brandi home. Kim wants to stay here and finishes clearing the tables. I'm really against it because the doctor told her she needs to relax. I just don't want anything to happen to our babies."

"Okay, damn calm down Chris. You just gave me the whole rundown. And Kim, I agree that you need to chill."

"What? Are you serious?"

"Yeah, you just sit down and I'll clean."

"But that's not your job."

"Nor is it yours. What did I say about the weight of the world."

I offered my middle finger to Chris but he only smiled and kissed my cheek.

While Dionne was in the kitchen, I sat back with my hand on my stomach, feeling my babies move around. This is always fasinating to me.

"Seems like you're happy that you're going to become a mother," I hear Rashad's voice once again.

"Yeah, I am. I didn't purposefully but once you experience something like this you never feel sorry."

"How come you didn't tell me this before I got so wrapped up in you?"

I was taken aback by his question but answered, "I didn't know. It's just happened. Then the next day was our date to A.C."

"Well it didn't seem like you wanted him to touch you today."

"It was inappropriate. He should have been supporting the other woman."

" The other woman is his baby mom too? Wow, I thought you wanted more for yourself."

"What the hell did you just say to me? I know you not judging me, like I would actually get myself in to a situation on purpose?" I ranted, "It just happened. We've been best friend's for nine years and it just happened. Not that I need to justicify myself to you but I believe in taken care of my responsiblities."
