Aftermath

They were the first ones back at the Byer's.

Max parked the car with a halt and everybody immediately got out. Mike hopped out of the back seat and almost took off running to see if everyone else had arrived when an irritated Dustin called him back to help carry Steve up. Apparently those punches he obtained from Max's step brother had really shaken up his skull and they were back on to carrying him again.

Lucas opened the door while the two hauled Steve up and tried to lay him down on the sofa. Instead, he fell down the floor with a thud. Dustin muttered a quick sorry in answer to Steve's inaudible swearing as they adjusted him properly on the sofa, this time.

Max came back with a glass of water from the kitchen, and the boys attempted to make Steve sit up and drink. They ended up in spilling the water all over his face.

In between Steve's incoherent complaints and coughing, eventually, they succeeded in making him drink and helped him to lie down again. All of them were then crowded at the living room, waiting anxiously for the others to come back.

Mike didn't know if it was only several minutes or already an hour that has passed when a flare of headlights pierced through the windows of the house. He bolted to the door and yanked it open, just as he saw Jonathan park the car. Jonathan then went to the backseat and carried out an unconscious Will as he Nancy, and Mrs. Byers climbed up to the threshold. Everybody was rushing to Will but Mrs. Byers asked them softly to let the boy rest for now. They went straight to Will's room to settle him on his bed.

Nancy pulled Mike to the side and hugged him so tight that he ran out of air.

"I was really worried about you. Are you okay?" she asked with concern painted all over her face.

"Yeah, I guess." Mike answered with a shrug. "You?"

"I'm fine. What happened? Did Steve take care of you guys? Did you stay here as you were told?"

"I tri- tried to- to stop them, Nance." Steve murmured.

Nancy was about to reply but was suddenly cut off as all of the kids went on a ramble about the happenings of the night.

"And so we were just waiting here just as what you guys told us-

"-and then Max's psycho step brother went here to find her and then he got into a fist fight with Steve-"

"-Steve was going to win but then Billy hit him with a plate on the head! A fucking plate!!"

"Language!!"

"-and then he was on top of Steve, punching him like a maniac-"

"-we thought Steve was gonna die and then Max got out the syringe and-"

"-then she pierced Billy with it and then Billy got groggy and stuff"

"and then Max threatened him it was sooo cool and just like that he was knocked out-"

"-then we made a plan to make a distraction-"

"Okay, okay, enough." Said Mrs. Byers, who just got out of Will's room with Jonathan. "Can one of you just please explain to me clearly what happened here?"

Max decided to explain all the events that followed their encounter with her step brother, the three adults listening intenly.

"And after that we went back here and Billy was gone." she concluded.

"The main point is, a party member needed help, and it is the other party member's duty to provide that help." Dustin added to a still confused Mrs. Byers.
