"So basically, to play this game you have to come together in a group of people, and in different sittings you complete what's called a campaign. Before the game starts, everyone picks a character and then they pick a class depending on..." Mike explained the game in great depth, continuing on and on.
I heard a slight rustling noise coming from the closet behind me, but I decided to ignore it because all I could do was stare at Mike. It was probably nothing anyways.
Listening to him was easy, but paying attention to what he was saying was hard. His words had a lot of passion put into them, which was awfully alluring. I progressively leaned in, nodding my head every now and then to make it seem like I was deeply considering everything he said. He would glance up at me every now and then, putting emphasis on his words. I didn't break my eye contact with him once. Even when he looked away, I stayed glued to his eyes.
Dustin's P.O.V.
"Ow! You stepped on my foot!" Whisper-screamed Lucas to Will.
"Shut up Lucas! They're gonna hear us!" Snapped Will.
"Shhhh! Both of you be quiet!" I said, in a considerably more quiet tone. We all calmed down and peered through the slits in the louvered closet doors.
"The girl's leaning in!" Lucas exclaimed, still maintaining the low intensity of his voice.
"Her name's (Y/N). I think. I can't really remember." I said.
"Ten bucks, I bet she'll kiss him." Will said.
"Deal," Lucas said, "I think she's too shy. Also, I happen to have-" He paused searching through his pocket, pulling out money, "Four bills! It's too dark to read 'em but I bet they're worth at least ten."
A few minutes passed by without anything exciting happening. We became bored and lost our excitement.
"Nothing's happening. " Lucas said.
"Oh, you just want to get out of here before they kiss so you can win the bet!" Will accused.
The two of them bickered back and forth for a few moments. I punched Lucas in the shoulder (or at least that's what I thought it was because it was too dark to see).
"What was that for?!"
"Look!" I retorted. Silence fell as we watched what unfolded before us.
Mike's P.O.V.
"So, do you think you understand now?" I asked her. A part of me wished she didn't understand, so I could keep talking to her. The way she listened to me made me feel smart - like people were interested in what I had to say.
Do I like her...? I must. People don't feel like this about people that they don't like. My face gets red when she breathes in my general direction, when she talks I could listen forever, and when she laughs it makes me want to laugh with her.
I looked up and she was staring right into my eyes. I swallowed, feeling my face begin to heat up. The sensation was familiar, since I had felt it so many times today. I tried to calm down but I started fidgeting with my fingers, my heart rate increased, and I knew she could see me turning red. I can't look away from her now, I thought, she'll think I'm weak or something.
I realized that I had been leaning towards her the whole time I was explaining D&D, so I tried to retract, but she quickly reached out and put her hand on my shoulder, stopping me in my tracks. I swallowed yet again.
"Y-Yeah. I think ... I think I understand." She said.
She leaned in, painfully slowly. I knew immediately what she was trying to do. My heart was beating so fast I bet she could have heard it. To speed it up, I leaned in too. Our lips were millimeters apart when I heard a sneezing sound come from the closet next to us. We both jumped apart and looked at the closet, horrified expressions painted onto our faces.
"Lucas!" Two easily recognizable voices said in unison from behind the door.
"What?! Is a guy not allowed to sneeze! Geez..." Said Lucas.
"Oh please! You could have held that in no problem!" Said who I imagined was Will.
"You owe me ten buckos buddy boy." Said Lucas.
I could almost hear Lucas' smirk as well as the ruffling of papers (presumably money) and a few annoyed grunts from what I assumed was Will.
The closet doors swung open to reveal Dustin, Will, and Lucas, who was grinning like a madman as he shuffled his bills.
"What the heck guys! How did you even get inside my house?! No one's home!" I yelled.
"The door was unlocked." Dustin said calmly, shrugging. (Y/N) gingerly waved at the Lucas and Will.
"H-Hey, I'm uh, (Y/N)..." She said nervously.
"I'm Lucas. Pleased to meet you." He said in an extremely formal tone, probably to be funny. I wasn't laughing.
"Sup. I'm Will. Will Byers." said Will in a regular voice, thank God.
"So... Are we going to play Dungeons and Dragons or not?" Dustin asked simply, after a few moments of silence had passed.
I sighed.
"Yeah, I guess so." I said, defeated.
Ey loves! Sorry about how unsatisfying this part is... Word count's 1529, so its almost the same size as the last part. Come back soon (or never) for more.
