The city of Theros was especially busy today I thought as I opened the curtains draped over the old stone window. With massive walls and fortified parapets it seemed as if the city was impenetrable.
The marketplace was very lively on today of all days.My father the king was preparing for the coming of spring with a festival. I turned around and faced my mirror which has hung on the far side of my oversized room since I was a child. I was the only one of my three brothers that had any resemblance of our mother.
I have curly blonde hair which brush my shoulders. I usually keep my hair tied back in a ponytail that reaches the back of my neck. I wear an eyepatch over my left eye and my right eye is light blue, the color of the sky on a cloudless day.
I remove the eyepatch covering my left eye. I always felt self conscious of this eye since I was young. I started wearing the eye patch on the day my mother was assassinated by a failed attempt to
poison my father, the king.
My left eye opened after I removed my eye patch revealing a silver colored eye with a slanted pupil. The keeper of the library always told me that the eye of a dragon is a very rare gift that can either destroy a nation or save it.
I never cared for old stories much. I never believed the tales of dragons and gods. To me it was all nonsense that could not be proved. I made my way towards my younger brothers room.
Jinji always liked to tag along to watch my swordsmanship lessons. Jinji was smaller in stature than I, but what he lacked in strength he made up for in intelligence.
Jinji waved his brown hair out of his eyes. They was an emerald color you can only describe as otherworldly. He makes friends with everybody. The type to be pulled into the depths of hell and crawl back out with the devil himself owing him a favor.
Jinji watched as me and my instructor practiced at what seemed like impossible speeds. Each of us a blur, slashing, and blocking. The clang of steel as we demonstrate how intense and serious this lesson was.
In the middle of the battle there was the sound of an arrival horn being blown.Nobles of the neighboring nations are arriving to attend the festival.
As thousands of civilians and the occasional noble crowd the city i heard another horn blast. This time I know its for me and my brothers. Its time to join in on the fun. I sheathed my sword. A fine weapon with a jeweled hilt and a dragon engraved on the side of the razor sharp blade. The blade itself is forged out of the hardest titanium brought out of the mines.
I shoot a look at Jinji as he finishes what was left of the pastry i had left on my plate."that was mine" i called out Jenji shrugged and said"all well" with a mouth full of sweets."come on, the festival is waiting" I said as we started towards the royal court.
The sun was setting in the sky as we walked briskly to the throne room. "Hey, just where do you think your going without me?" Connor, our oldest brother shouted from behind us.
"Nowhere that matters to you." Exclaimed Jinji as Connor ran to catch up. "Well isn't someone cranky today?" He laughed as all three of us rounded a corner.
Around the corner were two figures. On the left stood a man in leather bound armor and a short sword sheathed on his belt.Standing on the right was a girl who was small in stature but seemed to make up for it in her stunning presence.
She had light grey hair, the color could only be described as steel as it spilled out over her red dress. Her features were perfect, she had a small, round face, with blue/green eyes that peer into your very soul.
