Diary of a Princess

Introduction

Diary entry #1

I sat and stared at my wall. I was wearing my favorite outfit. A tear rolled down my cheek. My father, the king, had died. No, he hadn't just died, he had been murdered. I told myself that I wouldn't cry. I tried to stand up, but I couldn't. My throat burned. Tears seeped through my eyes and dripped down my cheeks. I reached for my teddy bear. I hugged it. My father had gotten me that teddy bear when I was just a baby.

My door creaked open. I looked up and wiped the tears from my eyes.

"My lady." Arion said. I stood and took his hand. Arion was a servant in my castle. He was also one of the few friends I had.

"Are you okay?" He asked. I started to nod, but shook my head no and began to cry again. I buried my head in his shoulder. Arion hugged me. "Your mother needs you to be strong." Arion said. I nodded and wiped away my tears. I walked to my mother's room. My mother held a small bundle. She was crying.

"Mother, be strong for the baby." I said

"I can't. I just can't." My mother whimpered. I walked over and picked up the baby. She was so sweet and innocent. She had no idea that the day she was born her father had died.

The door burst open. A man strutted into the room. I placed the baby into a basket.

"Darling!" The man yelled. My mother flinched.

"I'll go to pick flowers for my father's funeral." I said as I grabbed the basket and headed toward the door. The man glared at me.

" Let her go." My mother said.

"You do not need to tell me what to do 'queen'. I am your husband's brother therefore the heir to the throne, but I need a wife. You know the rules." The man said.

" Is this what you call a wedding proposal." My mother said.

" Yes and no. Except you have not choice." The man laughed.

I ran out of the castle. I ran to the river clutching the basket. A woman stepped out of the woods. "Princess?" The woman asked. I nodded.

"The baby?" She asked

" In the basket. Take good care of her and keep her safe." I told her.

" I will." She said as I handed her my sister very carefully.

" What is her name?" She asked.

" She has none." I answered.

"Then it shall be Dauphine. Or Daphine." She said. I looked at the baby carefully.

" You ARE my sister." I said. Then she was gone.
