Say Farewell Then Welcome To Hell

"Welcome our lovely orphans. Today we will be announcing, and taking, all of you to your new families. First I must say some words: It has been a pleasure to take care of you. You have respected my boundaries and followed rules accordingly. And for that, I thank you. Today you will be leaving the orphanage. I hope you say your goodbyes to all your friends.", Sister Naomi stated.

I held the edges of my grey uniform skirt, using a fake smile to distract my anger. I felt like a dog. People come into a room to introduce themselves to me, then pick if they want me or someone else. Disgusting. It seemed as if I was only one drained of energy in the room. Lindsey R. stood next to me, well stood is an understatement. Rather she happily bounced in her polished black shoes, awaiting to hear the new family she was going to. Everyone seemed thrilled. From Joshua Lawrence to Lena Markjin, everyone standing at the edge of their seat.

I remembered which family I didn't want, and which one I did. Sadly, I didn't remember last names. My favorite was was one lady, and one man. They said I would be their one and only child and that they lived in a home similar to this. If I was to live anywhere, it would be with them. Then we had the other one. A man with a cowboy hat on and a blue button down, he had a beard and leaned back with every step. Then the lady, she had long red hair and a white button down that was tucked into her boot cut jeans. They were a bit different. Apparently, I would be their eighth kid, which meant annoying siblings either dragging me with them, or making it so I have to drag them.

"First up, Kyla.", Sister Naomi announced.

I stepped forward and looked her in the eyes.

"You had two families willing to adopt you. The Samsel's and the Lautrec's. The one that has officially chosen you is the Lautrec's.". A wave of applause crowded from behind me.

"They are a very nice family. They promised to take care of you and give you the best of treatment.", Sister Naomi whispered into my ear as she gave me a hug.

"Good luck, Kyla. I hope you have fun.", Lindsey congratulated me.

I nodded to her and put on that idiotic fake smile again. Why would I use my mouth muscles for such useless things?

I honestly had no idea which family was the Lautrec's. Yes I met them, but that was too long ago. I thanked Sister Naomi.

Now, time to say goodbye. First, I had to say goodbye to Xavier, my boyfriend. I walked along the crowded halls of many orphans discussing random things. Locker 2304, Xavier's locker. As expected, he was piling his books into the locker messily. He struggled to make them stay put in the slim compartment. I walked over and helped him place the books neatly so they wouldn't fall out.

"Thanks, Kyla.", he sighed and slammed the door shut.

"I am leaving today.", I groaned.

"Ha. Nice one.", he sarcastically replied.

"Xavier. I'm serious.". I handed him the adoption papers that were scheduled for today.

He examined them then reached his eyes up to mine.

"Whatever. Have fun.", he shoved them back then walked off.

He didn't care about me. He never did. Xavier was one big red flag, and I grew to learn that, but I never broke up with him. Next was someone who I knew would really care. Danica, my roommate of seven years.

I walked into the elevator and pressed Floor Five, which is where we stayed. The elevator doors opened wide to the corridor leading down about ten dorms. Number One, us. I knocked lightly on the door in case her boyfriend was sleeping over. She opened the door cheerfully.

"I'm in a really good mood. Spend the rest of the day with me!", she cheered.

"About that.", I handed her the papers.

She looked up at me with a frown on her face.

"Why did you have to bring my whole mood down. I don't want another roommate. I want you.", she pleaded.

"What am I supposed to do? Refuse?", I asked.

"No. I mean, I'm happy for you. You know what...just forget I said anything. I bet you'll have an awesome family. I'm not saying goodbye though, I'm saying see you later.", she protested.

"Alright, Danica. See you later.".

They were it. I didn't want to speak to anyone else. Those were my closest friends and one of them didn't even care, but I didn't mind it. I walked to the entrance.

One of the escorts led me out of the orphanage. They wore black suits and white shirts below it. I dragged my luggage behind me. The warm air hit my face like a fresh splash of water. I had been awhile since I'd seen the outside of the orphanage. Tall white pillars streaming down the entrance. A long marble staircase leading down into the circular driveway, limousines packed outside.

But strangely, the escorts leaded me away from them. I confusedly followed them. Quite possibly I had another limousine waiting for me. We walked past the all the fancy cars. They had to be at least one more beyond us. I continued to walk. My arms started to get tired from pulling around my suitcase. We finally reached the car, but it was different. It was old but polished. Definitely not a limousine, but definitely not a dump.

A man came out of the passenger side. He most definitely didn't look like the country guy. He looked professional. I smiled, for real this time.

"Hi I'm Eugene. I'm your new brother.", he politely replied.

"Wait. How many siblings do I have?", I asked.

"You have seven. I know that's a lot but you'll get used to it.", he smiled.

I smiled back. But on the inside I was tearing apart the streets. Seriously!? I got the stupid cowboys.

"Maybe they have a big house.", I said to myself.

I entered the passengers side of the car and crossed my arms. Why did it have to be them? The car ride seemed so long. I stared out the window. It felt as if I wasn't even being adopted, it felt like I was being dumped in a landfill. We started to reach large houses. Ones with pretty brown pillars and nice windows. A smile appeared on my face. We started to pass through them, they got smaller and smaller. My hopes started to give up.

Finally we arrived at the destination. And like I said, it was a trash dump. It was small, about the size of a single apartment. It was blue and wide, every window was opened with ugly lamps showing.

The only thing I saw, the only thing that I liked about the house...was them large field, even bigger than the orphanage, being out personal backyard.
