They had been unlikely friends, you would never had expected it. She was 16 and he was in his mid thirties. It wasn't creepy or anything, you could say that they met through work. He was a teacher. In lessons he would pick on her for the silly things she said and she would get him back by getting a little sarcastic, almost mouthing off, but always knowing where the line was. Every insult or comment would be followed up by a smile, just incase the other didn't know if it was a joke or not, and as usual they both thought that they were superior. Yet to anyone else it appeared that they hated eachother. It was all fun and games though.

It was a cold September day, students hadn't been back at school for long but as students do, they were complaining. Lunch time rolled around and students that hadn't managed to earn themselves a detention could be seen running around, or in some cases, shiverring as they huddled in their groups. A perfect disguise, to quote Sherlock Holmes, could be described as the act of being able to hide in plain sight, and this man had done just that.

This man had sliverred through the cold bodies undetected, hands in pockets and hood covering his identity, blending in. He walked up to her, head still looking down. She dismissed him until he grabbed ahold of her arm and dragged her back. It was then and only then was the knife revealed.

To her the moment was both in hyper speed, and in slow motion, happening all so quickly, but knowing every tiny detail. Her unlikely friend wrestled the knife from the mans hands, injuring the intruder in the process. Both the knife and trespasser dropped to the floor and curiosity caused people to rush over. However a crimson river began to flow from the abdomen of her teacher, staining his shirt and tie. He looked at her, she looked back, within one look everything had been said and he collapsed. She ran over to him and held his head in her lap. Screaming for someone to call an ambulance in all the commotion, despite everything around her, she could only hear him.

"At least you're safe kiddo." He whispered, taking in each heavy breath.

"No, no, please don't say that." Her eyes began to tear up. Of course he annoyed her. Of course she wanted to kill him at times, but she never would wish for this.

"No matter the circumstances, you'll fight through it. I know you too well." He coughed and spluttered.

"Say it like you'll be back, say it like you'll see me tomorrow, say it like you'll always be there." Tears were streaming down her face now, she didn't care.

"I expect to see your homework tomorrow, if not you'll be spending your lunch with me and I'm not entirely sure we'll enjoy that." She smiled at his words, and she didn't stop, not even when the ambulance came to take him.

Doctors rushed trying to save a life, but he never made it..........
