Chapter 1
It was a dark winter night. The wind slowly blew through my hair from the window. I felt an uneasy feeling, as i sat in my bed. Curled up in my blanket i stared out my window watching the snow fall. My parents were asleep so there was no one awake but me. My throat felt a bit parched, so i walked downstairs to get a glass of water. I turn the knob, but the water didnt turn on. I was baffled, but too tired to care. I went back upstairs with an empty glass that i forgot to put away. When i sat back in bed I noticed my phone blinking. I picked it up to check and it was a message from my friend Chris. In big bold letters, it read "MARSHALL, GET THE HELL OUT OF YOUR HOUSE, ITS LIFE IR DEATH, MEET ME AT THE SMALL STORE DOWN THE STREET". I was confused and a bit scared. I grabbed my bookbag, got completely dressed and snuck out. The skyline was like a sheet of blinding darkness.
A few minutes later I seen Chris standing by the entrance of the small store. I approached him. "What the hell is this all about", i said. I was taking out the trash and i heard noises coming from my back yard, said Chris. So, i went around my house with my phone's flashlight on. "I seen this thing crawling toward my back door so i ran as fast as I could back inside", said Chris. "Have you seen ir heard anything around your house lately", asked Chris. "Lets just go back to your house and see if its still there, if not, we can go to bed and go to school", i suggested. "Alright i guess, i just have a bad feeling about this", said Chris. We continued the walk back to Chris's house. Everything was quite and weird. I wanted to say something, anything to break the ice, but i couldn't think of anything. "So...hows your mom doing", i asked. Shes doing ok, taking everything day by day, she has a meeting tomorrow, said Chris. We arrived at his house, slowly walking in the snow. Alright you check one side and ill check the other, we'll meet up out back, instructed Chris. I shook my head and continued to the opposite side of the house. Living in a neighborhood like ours was tough because everyone took everything way to far. I slowly approached the back yard. I coukd hear footsteps in the snow, and just preying that it was Chris. I poked my head around the corner of his house. At that moment I seen Chris do the same. After a long pause, just listening to the air in the trees, we both came out of hiding and stood out back. I guess its gone, but I sware I saw it, said Chris. Im not crazy, Chris added. Dont worry bro, I believe you, i said. Alright, ill see you in school tomorrow, said Chris. I walked away and started heading for my house. I had so many things on my mind. Like, why would I use his moms problems as a way to start a conversation, I thought. How dead I was if my parents caught me. Most importantly, what if Chris is right. What if there is some kind of monster out waiting to kill us all. What if this is... THE END OF THE WORLD.
