Now he sat, revelling in the dark of the night, looking out the window of his bedroom. The dream, once again taunting him to distraction. It had started some weeks ago, coming to him like a laugh carried through the wind. He dreamt of her crouching down by a stream, fingers immersed in the water as it lapped the bank. She was with child, his child. She was beautiful. She turned when she heard him approaching, the first moment he saw her smile at him caused a gasp that was audible even in his sleeping. She was the breath of air that some would cause refreshing, she had hair that was cut neatly just below her shoulders. He watched in his dream as it shone with the rays of the sun and fell softly around her face as she moved her head. Her eyes had an energy that could easily be as powerful as an uncut diamond and her face glowed with happiness and love… love for him.

He saw her walking down the street. The woman in his dream. He stopped so abruptly that the woman behind him almost ran into him. She scowled at him as she passed but he saw none of that. His eyes were on the dream woman. The woman he felt he knew. His woman. He ached to know who she was, where she came from, where she wanted to go… with him. There was something about her. Something that made him hope while alarming him for he knew he could never be near her. He’d searched for answers, he’d seen every person he could find who had any knowledge of witchcraft and curses. There was no one who had the power to change anything that had been in his family all these years. He was trying to keep the hope alive but slowly as each year passed it was dying. He had no inclination to get married and continue the family name. As the last male heir he had decided he was going to end the curse… alone… until now.

Determined to have her he followed her into the department store. He couldn’t get close to her, he couldn’t allow her to know he was there but he had to look at her.
