A woman was in the hospital having a baby, it was a girl. That girl is me, and here I am telling my story. 17 years later.
My mother named me Atalan after my grandma who passed just the day before I was born, it was how my mother would let her legacy continue. My father was in the army and he was always gone on business. My mother just wanted a normal working life for the both of us, without a father leaving and being gone for long periods of time, then coming back hurt and suspended from fighting. About 7 years later, my mother and father divorced. I didn't understand it at first, but after that I grew to be independent. My mother kept me and became an alcoholic.I basically became her parent after that. After every two weeks I get to stay with my father for a week. For most people it would be an escape, but I was worried my mother would hurt herself or fall down the stairs, or anything, so most times I didn't want to go over.
At the age of 10, me and my mother moved with her new boyfriend in a city far away. I went to a new school, and left all my friends. After that it was terribly hard to make friends, everyone was quite rude, and I often saw people being dumped into bins. I would daydream about having my father having a normal job and normal work hours, my mother being a normal housewife, and me having friends to play with, but I knew nothing would ever be the same until the next day..
My mother's boyfriend brought me into the basement of his house when I saw blood streaming across the ground and my mother in the corner, crying, screaming.. bleeding. I immediately turned around to see his fist coming closer, and closer, to my face until he hit me. Everyday after that my mother tried to protect me and make sure I wouldn't get hurt again. But 3 years later, October 16th, she was covered in bruises, scars, and mentally hurt. Later that day she jumped off a bridge into a freeway and got hit my 5 cars, she didn't make it at all. There was no chance.
The police came by her boyfriend's house, and saw everything in the basement, all the torture weapons, and found a dead body in his bin. My mother dated a murderer, we lived with a murderer, I couldn't believe it. They arrested him and saw my bruises and I told them everything. I got to live with my dad again, he had a new wife and another kid, it looked like he got his life together. I didn't really understand why he quit from the army, he got paid pretty well, but I guess he wanted to fix his mistakes, but just a little too late for that.
His new wife was sweet and soft, she was the dream mom I always wanted, but she still wasn't perfect. When I moved in I got the spare bedroom, and for the first month they acted almost fake, well at least the parents. My fathers new daughter wasn't very fond of me, she was 10 and I was 13. She almost seemed.. jealous of me, that I was his pure hearted child, that I was his first, and that her mother liked me more than her. But it all changed.
When I turned 15 everything started to change, I felt almost comfortable. I hadn't been comfortable since before my mother and father divorced, which was ages ago. I was taking the garbage to the bins outside across the street in an ally, when I saw it. It was my step-mother making out with some man and going backwards into a car, when I paused and saw her stripping. I knew this was her, I knew she was acting weird, it was just how would I tell my father.. I don't know wait compelled me but I had to wait until they stopped, the car was shaking, I was disgusted but I had to see if she would just play it off when she got home and acted like nothing just happened across the street. 90 degrees, and I still stood there waiting and watching, behind the bins. I didn't want to be seen by them, or be acting like a creep. But she did pick a man with abs I gotta say. No, I couldn't get distracted, she was doing something so wrong, and I didn't want my sister, even my half-sister who hated me, to have a torn life like me.
She sat up in the car redressing, and she left the car, blowing a kiss to him. She walked home, exactly how I imaged, like nothing happened. The guy left his car, and I sped walked over to him walking down the street, I touched his shoulder, and got shivers down my spine, he turned around and I said, "Hey, you need to stop this nonsense." He looked confused at first, then understood what I said. "Yeah? And are you talking about your step-mother loving me more than your filthy father?" I was immediately raging, my face red as apples. I responded with, "I've seen it happen before. I tell my father she's cheating and they'll get divorced, but you won't be happy. You will get the responsibility of a child and probably a alcoholic, suicidal girlfriend." He looked surprised and with worry, he looked over at our house and he started walking towards it. "Hey! Where are you going?!" I almost yelled at him. He looked both ways across the street and ran towards our house. he knocked on the door and my step-mother came to the door, she grabbed him by his shirt and kissed him. But instead of just letting her husband know she was cheating, he backed off and broke it off with her, he couldn't take any responsibility right now.
3 months later, the word got out. My step-mother cheated. And my father was filing a divorce, and this time, taking custody of his kid. They got divorced, and my sister, Acelen, got to stay here in her home. We were pretty happy, she got to like me and my father gave up on woman, the only girls he wanted in his life were his daughters.
2 years later, I was 17 and it was prom night, life actually felt normal. I had a date for prom and Acelen was in her first year of high school, she adored it. My boyfriend, Aiden, took to me to prom that night, he drove his mother's jeep and I liked how he didn't spend money for just a 5 minute ride. We arrived at prom and danced the night away, at about midnight we went outside, heading for his car so I wouldn't miss my curfew. Aiden walked behind me and we were laughing and giggling. I spotted a black shadow but I thought it was nothing, until it came closer and closer, then I saw what it had in its hand. A gun, it pointed it towards me, and I saw Aiden look up as it shot.
And this is where I told my story. I saw my life flash before my eyes, and here I am telling it. I went through so many things, so many deaths, loses, and a couple gains, I'm surprised I made it to 17, I made it to prom, I had the night of my life, everything ended for the good.
The bullet stopped slowing down as I opened my eyes, the bullet went through my head and I fell. I saw Aiden's look, I saw the guy run away, I saw blood streaming down my face, the taste. I felt tired, drained, I just wanted to close my eyes. I slowly shut them and I felt cold.
The End.
