Do I apologize for being forever etched in your DNA
For being ingrained within you
Branding you with the ebony letter B ?
It seems like I have to apologize to the world around me
So I'm not sure if I have to apologize to you too.
If you do request I apologize.
I have to wonder.
Are you that weak to let the world dictate who you are?
Encapsulated in your blood
I swim through your veins
I flow with the air for each breath you exhale
I hold the weight for each tear you shed
Resonating with your laughter.
I am a symbol of something much greater than you.
Listen to the history your heart is telling you
The songs of warriors
The notes of survivors
Melanin is your war paint
Your pigmentation is your suit of armor
The trials I put you through defines who you are.
