I woke up to the loud crowing of the rooster outside my window, the darkness of night still cradling the room. Tomorrow is my birthday, and I have to prepare a presentation about my steed to present tomorrow. I sat up and kicked off the soft furred blanket on my bed. Quickly changing out of my pajamas into a shirt and a pair of pants, I slipped out the door and slid on barn shoes to do the morning chores before breakfast. I quickly milked the cows and harvested the eggs from the chickens. When I re-entered the house, my step mom Vira and Dad were already up. Setting the eggs and milk on the kitchen counter, I ran upstairs to clean up for the day. Downstairs, Vira made breakfast. Smelling the bacon from the bathroom, I quickly finished my shower. Running into my room, I grabbed a clean shirt and a pair of jeans. I ran downstairs and sat down at the table; a plate was already there. The bacon and cinnamon roll looked at me and seemed to whisper, "Eat me!" After scarfing down the food, I grabbed my backpack and ran out the door. Hearing the faint goodbyes from Dad, I grabbed my bike from the edge of the path and hopped on, pedaling twords the school.
As I sped down the road, I day-dreamed of going down this path on my steed. I imagined the muscles flexing beneath me and the wind whipping through my hair. I know there is no way to exactly predict what steed type I would find at my door tomorrow, but I figured it would be the most common, as that's what my parents had- a horse. I had expectations for what it could be, so I could not dream of having a rare one. When I got to the school, I parked my bike in the bike rest and quickly ran to class.
I sat in my seat next to my best friend, Juni, and prepared for class, and Juni's preliminary presentation on steeds and the possible steeds that could appear on anyone's door step. Juni followed my lead and prepared her presentation on the same topic. We had been inseparable since birth; due to the fact we had been born minutes apart and are neighbors. Juni was born a few minutes before me, so she was presenting first.
"Hey, Crystal, you ready to present?" Juni inquired, with a glint in her eye. I sighed.
"Yeah. I don't know if its good enough though. I really hope that I get a good grade on it." I organized my notes and placed the papers in order.
"Alright class! Today is a big day for Miss Juni and Miss Crystal! Tomorrow is much bigger however. Today they will present the preliminary presentation on steed types, and once they receive their steeds tomorrow, they will go into greater detail about the steed type they received." Mrs. Chi said as she entered the classroom and walked behind her desk. "Miss Juni will be starting the presentations today and Miss Crystal shall follow. Miss Juni, please come up front and present."
Juni quickly ran up front and prepared her presentation. She started with the history of steeds, and the possible purposes they serve. Next she went into the type of steeds, glossing over just about everything. She finished by explaining what steed she expects to get. After explaining how she wants a horse steed, she ran back to her seat and sat down.
"Next up is Miss Crystal." I slowly stood up and headed to the front of the room. I fiddled with my cards and got behind the podium. I breathed in deeply, and prepared to speak.
"The history behind the phenomena known as steeds, is as complicated and confusing as the reasons they bond to a certain person throughout the many lives they will have." I paused, flipping my cards to finish reading. "Legend says that they came from a time before Grahians did. Steeds roamed the world, protecting all of life on Grahi. There were seven very strong steeds, the Wolf steeds. These seven steeds resided, and controlled each element of life. The Sky Wolf flew among the clouds, bringing the power of the wind and storms everywhere she went. The Forest Wolf nurtured every baby animal and plant, helping it grow big and strong. The Fire Wolf resided within an active volcano, and created fire to destroy infected beings to prevent epidemics. The Sea Wolf swam in the depths of the ocean, creating currents and tides, and helping water flow all over the planet. The Dark Wolf brought the night to allow the others to rest, and brought sleep where ever he went. The Light Wolf brought the day to help the others to be productive, and to help end sleep. The Mountain Wolf changed the flat terrain to allow the diversity of live, and brings the ice throughout history and the winter." I sighed, legend over, Juni covered what experts say so I move on to my expectation.
