Choice: A country lane in the fall
As I rested during my late afternoon run and took a seat on the large, smooth rock covered with soft moss on the edge of the path, I looked around and appreciated the colorful scenery around me. A light fall breeze wafted the calming scents of soil, grass, and thousands of drying leaves all around, relaxing me. I wiped the sweat trickling down my temples and leaned back on the rough trunk of an old birch tree. Above me, the beautiful mixture of colors was displayed before me by fall leaves embroidering the background of a darkening blue sky. More vigorous winds rustled the trees and I watched the abundant foliage tumble and skate across the dry ground. Squirrels scuffled around burying nuts in the ground, while crickets began their evening song. Realizing that I was rapidly losing daylight, I continued, jogging, and listened to the rhythmic beat of my feet hitting the ground, not once taking my eyes off of the transforming nature around me.
