                             Prologue

I've never been good at socializing with the human race, which made school very hard for me. I always felt different, like I wasn't human or I just couldn't get along with other humans, and I never understood why.

But as I stand here in the middle of this random field in this forest that is so enticing, staring directly into the beautiful light brown eyes of a gigantic wolf, feeling like I found the piece of me that was always missing; I finally have a clue.

But as I stand here in the middle of this random field in a forest that is so enticing, staring directly into the

"I just don't know what to do anymore, Eleanor," she knows I hate being called by my full name. "I mean you either are doing nothing and looking like a zombie around the house, not making any friends, or you're getting in trouble at school!" I looked down as she flew her arms up in frustration.

"It's not my fault, I've told you that..." I said in a quiet voice.

"I just don't think you're trying hard enough and I don't know what else to do," she sighed "go pack up your things, someone will be here in the morning to take you to a different foster home."

This will be my 9th foster home in my 16 years of life, I wonder where I'm going this time. When I got up in the morning, I wasn't sad like you'd expect. I simply was used to it.

"I'm sorry it had to be this way" my foster mother said as she stood by the door with her husband right by her side.

"Don't worry about it" I said as I walked past them out the front door. Nothing good has ever happened to me, I have always been a magnet for bad luck so this was no big deal.

"Come on, sweetheart," my case worker, Jennifer, said and put her hand on my shoulder giving me a soft squeeze.

I gave her a convincing smile and she gave me a sympathetic one in return.

She helped me put my bags in the car, then we got in and drove away from another family that didn't work out.

"So, where am I going this time?" I asked staring blankly out the window.

"Well, we thought we'd try out of the city for once," she said unconvincingly. I turned and gave her a look with my brow raised.

She gave me a nervous smile. "You can always see right through me," she chuckled and then continued "this was the only place that would take you." I looked back out the window.

"Of course that's the reason" I said dryly.

"Oh, Ella, I'm sure there's someone out there who will see just how wonderful you are. Hey, maybe even this guy will be your forever family" she turned to smile at me.

"So, who exactly is taking me in?" I asked very curious.

"Uh, this sheriff in Forks, ugh I keep forgetting his name," she paused for a second, concentrating on what the man's name is.

"Something with a bird," she mumbled under her breath "oh! Charlie Swan! That's his name!" She exclaimed.

"A sheriff huh?" I said greatly uninterested. "Maybe I'll be able to stay out of trouble with a sheriff looking after me" my voice was dripping with sarcasm.

"Well, I do hope so. I want you to finally find somewhere you belong" she gave me a warm smile and I couldn't help but return it.

Jennifer has been the only person in my life who has actually cared about me and has really tried to help me. I don't know where I'd be without her.
